#Veg compartments in railways
by Gautaman T on Oct 04, 2018 10:15 PM  | Hide replies

Why stop with that? No one should be offended by one's fellow passengers. So people wearing jeans and t shirts (men & women) should be in a separate compartment and those wearing dhoti, jibba, salwar and sari in another one. Old people get offended by seeing young people having fun. So separate compartment for old and young. Families should also be separated by gender and accommodated in different compartments, ie, male, female and transgender.
This is not something that can be legislated and implemented. People should be encouraged to be sensitive to others, but it cannot be legally enforced.

Smell and other things are not of same class. Some things can be avoided by closing eyes, but most of us do not have control over our sense of smell.

If this guy is so rich who has his bunglow, own mosque etc then better he should travel in his own personal car rather than public transport,so simple, or ask him to file pil against KFC, Pizzahut, Dominos, Burger king if he reaaly care about animal slaughter....

Veg vs Non Veg
by parkash bhatia on Oct 04, 2018 09:35 PM  | Hide replies

Though I may not agree with his views having separate compatment for Non Begs as it is not practical approach but I agree with him that the Railways should have all veg food. There is no harm in it.

Forcing Indian railways to serve veg-food is not a valid point
by on Oct 04, 2018 09:35 PM

I think every one has right to eat.Forcing anything will not solve the problem. What if people start bringing the non-veg food from home if the same food is not served in train. It could be possible that all the veg food can be served on seat and non veg food lover can go to train canteen and eat.But Indian railway does not provide any canteen privilege for passenger.

Valid Point
by Sunil Kumar on Oct 04, 2018 09:03 PM  | Hide replies

It is a valid question. I think even non-veg eaters agree that it is better to eat good veg food than nonveg on a journey that is not in our control. The chances of food poisoning due to some wrong food supplied by the caterers is high in the non-veg, so I think it is better to turn Railways into a veg family.

I am a Muslim.
I have always taken care to have Veg food traveling by train or air only to see that my co passengers are comfortable.
I have many dignified and highly educated Muslim friends who do the same.
It has often happened that I have opted for Veg food but person sitting next to me is having Non Veg food. I have no problem to that. It is my choice to see to comfort of others but I cannot compel others.
I feel Syed Eqbal Ehsan is doing a right thing.
Lets spread Love and care. Let us all be true Indians.

Suggestion is absurd. Smell from food is from spices and not veg or non veg food. I cannot stand smell of garlic and have all my meals which mainly consists of white meat with out garlic. I can not eat veg food with garlic or hing. Does it mean there should be seperate compartment for garlic and hing eaters.

Unpleasant odour
by piri on Oct 04, 2018 08:08 PM

in AC compartments can be very disconcerting.

People who dont take non veg food can and do find its smell nauseating.

Similarly, the highly pungent smell of certain types of north Indian vegetarian foods (eg, Rajasthani Thalis) can be equally nauseating for those like South Indians who are unaccustomed to it.

The Railways ought to discourage smelly foods (whether veg or non veg) in its carriages, especially in AC carriages !

What if Non veg is served in International flight can we stop it
by sayed zakir hussain on Oct 04, 2018 06:03 PM  | Hide replies

I totally understand his plight. But tell me one thing. If you are travelling on an international airline and someone is serving non veg food, imagine a south east asian food which not only is non veg but the exotic items they use to make it has a peculiar smell which is unbearable. Will you go and file a case against them. In Aircraft the food served is right next to your food. What will you do brother, jump of the plane. Come on brother, we have to live with it. I work and stay in Saudi and the apartment where we stay has people from phillippines staying and their food had a strong smell but we cant go and lodge a case against them.
