The democratic set up in India has taken us to utter debacle. This is due to unscrupulous politicians and we must induct a re-call system or else we will see democracy drifting to some other form. The parliamentary committe is reported to have recommended un heard of perks to parliamentarians. These fools want these perks to be extended to the whole family of MPs and any thing they can grab under the veil of democracy. When plundering of the public exchequer comes, all these political hooligans unite, irrespective of their party affinities.Any how the present MODI ministry has turned down at least some recommendations, which gets a sigh of relief from our public.
Last 67 years Congress party indulged in limitless corruption, with the active connivance and support of communists. Secularism has always been more important than corruption.
As a citizens we are hardly benefitted from our local MLAs and MPs. Instead, they are burdening the common man for their lavish styles and perks.
Why can't we cut down at least 50% of MLAs and MPs as an austerity measures. The benefits are- # We can avoid unnecessary debate on Arnab Goswami's chowki and thereby save reasonable power. #Save lot of exchequer #Reduce to great extent the menace of political corruption #The incumbent Prime Minister can concentrate on his job of governing the country effectively. # India can get good number of skilled or unskilled (as the case may be) for our rapid industrialization.
(contd.)Thus the clandestine assistance by a central minister to a ‘fugitive’ coming on the top of her not declaring her ‘conflict of interest’ involved to establishment before taking up LM’s case is certainly the PROBLEM. It is evident her ‘intent’ appeared to be to instead of making it a formal govt. assistance to a needy cancer patient , she wanted to make it look like a ‘personal favor’ done to LM at high risk deserving a ‘return’ commensurate with the ‘high risk’. Beside the impropriety and morality involved it is being suggested in TV debates by legal experts that she could have as well committed ‘criminal act’ against national interest. So given this background where conflict of interest, quid-pro-quo etc. smacking of corruption exist a thorough SIT probe is needed to establish her culpability or otherwise. Thus it is only proper that she steps aside till such impartial probe is completed.
(contd.)Sushma’s case is different and special because if she gets away after all that she has done then it will set a dangerous precedent in politics encouraging corruption. The very concept of ‘probity in public life’ will go for a toss into the sea once and for all! It is 3rd week of TV debates and there is hardly any forward movement on the matter thanks to BJP stonewalling and PM Modi going silent. Her lawyer daughter or husband working for Lalit, where is the problem ? If her husband is offered ‘alternate Director’ post in Lalit’s company or is a ‘retainer’ where is the problem ? Actually it is not her daughter or husband who are the problem but it is Sushma Swaraj, the Honbl Foreign Minister who is the real problem. Also, humanitarian assistance per se to LM is not the problem. Leave aside LM who is not even charged, even ‘convicts’ can be helped on humanitarian grounds like ’cancer’ as long as it is done in transparent manner following all procedure after due diligence. Will anybody object to that ? Certainly not. But strangely the grand dame of dilli durbar instead of choosing the transparent path chooses to go ‘hush-hush’! She reverses the existing GOI stand that IND-BR relations could sour should LM get travel documents ! All in secrecy, which makes the ‘humanitarian’ angle too look suspect!
The article is timely but is it trying to justify the latest Sushma-Raje alleged corruption as part of a global phenomenon ? Corruption will be there always but that doesn’t mean people have to accept it lying down allowing the people in public office go scot free abusing their power. Developed countries have better checks & balance and better equipped financially to absorb the cost of corruption too. For poor country like ours it is just not affordable. Actually the top level large scale corruption occurs mainly due to leadership failure as seen during UPA regime. So, the Sush.--Raje crisis is going to be the acid test for PM, Modi in the background of his election promises on corruption. Now going by the #Lalitgate leaks one wonders if our leaders get elected to serve the people or their main aim is self serving looking to make fast bucks misusing power piggy-back crony capitalism! Or else how does one explain even as Sushma-Raje connection to #Lalitgate are unfolding it seems even Varun Gandhi did not lag behind—‘vhoe bhi behati ganga mein hath dhothey pakdey gaye ‘? And BJP is trying to brazen it out justifying everything! Modi govt. came to power promising a change from UPA’s scams and corruption but it seems now BJP and the Modi govt. wants to benchmark the Cong or UPA standards for themselves. Take Sushma’s case for now because Raje’s case is a straightforward ‘Royal thievery’ to be dealt as per law.
Corruption is directly linked with poverty and economic condition of the people. The richer the country, the lesser the corruption. The politician, the judges, the public servants, the police are from the people. When people and society at large will be honest, the politician and others will definitely be honest.
