In India a Kid is promoted by his/her parents to learn CRICKET and Only Cricket to become Sachin Tendulkar someday.... Do we really have any National sports or determination like our other Asian Countries like China, Japan, Korea etc. Whenever any promising Youngster flourish with his/her talent all greedy Sponsors and media Kills them with cheap publicity. How many young Indians dream of being Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt someday???

1.Indians are not strong physically to be atheletes. 2.Indians do not have that stamina to train for atheletics because they do not eat protein rich food at young age.Most of them are vegetarians and hence eat carbohydrates like wheat and rice. 3.Even non-veg eating Indians can not afford to eat meat or egg daily because of poor economic conditions. Because of eating non healthy diet, Indians, generally, are lazy and weak. So they can play only cricket as it requires less stamina. Even in cricket they can not become good fast bowlers as they lack physical strength and stamina. Even the few medal won in Olympics are from non-sporting events like Shooting or when the opponent retires hurt. Before criticising Indians for not winning medals at Olympics these facts should be taken into account.

interesting analysis. i agree with most of the points . but we used to win consistently in hockey once upon a time . 8 gold medals. not a small feat. why dis protein thing suddenly ? i think it has got to do more wid politics and less with preotein rich diet .

We won 8 medals in Hockye because there were very few compititive teams in Hockey unlike today.
The only thing that parents in India want most is to see their child makes it in IIT,IIM or become a CA or Doctor.It is immaterial to them even if the child show great talent in games or sports which in their opinion is a waste of time.The writer is correct that yet we expect medal from athletes who are rarely given the due they deserve by society.

agarwalji, Survival in life is more important.I can site so many sports person working in govt establishments for poor salary which is hardly sufficient fto meet both ends.Corruption and nepotism is the part of societyand good performers in sports are never encouraged.In such a situation the parents decide their children to finish IIM,IIT wherein survival in life after 30 years is guarnteed.The root cause is our democratic(?) style.
No wonder this article written by some kind of jealous jerk.
Anyway since everybody praised the credibility of Olympic & excepted as most prestigious sports event on the global, no one can ever deny that india came out as looser & still a looser who lacks basic human skills in terms of communication also in terms of physical agility.
india is country of people, who knows how to cry on others success rather believe in performance.
india belives in corruption & wants to believe in same way, also does not want to see that anything is possible without corruption too.
Sab bikta hain bas Kharidne wala chahiye kind of believe.
Everyone is corrupt so we r, what is wrong in it???
yes india can gold medal in corruption and no one can dare to get even silver or bronze (even India can eye these two medals) and yes congress can get gold medal in conning people of India.
