Metallurgy - Material Scientists needed
by slater on Jun 03, 2011 02:57 PM  | Hide replies

This is one of the key areas in the defense arena. If we cannot produce world class scientists in these areas we are screwed. Every SOB wants to get into a CS course and become a clerk or peon in a MNC. No one wants to test the boundaries of material science, bcos, it is difficult and the returns are absymal in India. I request the Indian govt to incentivise the materials area so that Private sector can dig in. If there are no benefits TATA or BIRLA is not going to get there. I dont think Lockeed Martin is going to part with their rocket science any time soon. Privitize materials research ".".

Kickbacks in Swiss Banks versus Indian Banks
by Das on Jun 03, 2011 02:14 PM  | Hide replies

The equipment bought overseas gets hefty kickbacks which can be parked overseas.
OTH, the kickbacks offered in India are samller in amount, are in Rs and are desposited in Indian banks and easier to trace. With the degree of corruption and nexus, edident from Bofor days, between politicians, babus and higher echelons of defence personnel, it is all too easy to understand that why such deals have been preferred and there has been deliberate, systematic and sustained effort at preventing local production. It is better to have locally produced slightly inferior weapon system than top range foreign one, as foreign supplier can turn the tap off any time, demand massively inflated price, it promotes local technology and employment and above all it far more dependable. But depsite 60plus year crooks in all walks of India life have ensured that even 'holy cow' like defence has not been saved from the insidious, all pervasive and above all most destructive rot of corruption.
It is for this reason that time has come for summary execution for cases of corruptions.

I know that Ramakant, because some of relatives working in DRDL in Hyd do get kickbacks. For example, they buy cables which are very well available in India, but they get money from th dealers to import.

does one Ahole here know what a complex system a warship is ? ....bhchoddd its not a boat you too on our miserable effing honeymoon..... a warship demands the whole gamut of all branches of engineering, and latest technologies to the minutest detail. if anything less then its as good as a paper boat.... it would be shot off within no time.

then how can such a complex system be developed completely in a country were haramkhorr management donkeys and corrupt politicos finance the defence sector with pittance ?

even the scoundrels in uniform who failed their SSC exams 10 times dont support scientists and brag about the imported goods. Bchodd you think these technologies are like eggs that ur wyffsss lay every year ?

Why we still lag behind?
by Tom Dick on Jun 03, 2011 12:09 PM  | Hide replies

Why we lag behind? The reason, I guess, is our belief in socialism. Government wanted to control everything including research and development. Had we encouraged private business to produce defence equipments, there would have been plenty of competition, prices would be checked and more and more new items would have been available. See the difference in telephone service now and in 60s and 70s. Fierce competion between manufacturers in the US helped them to come up with state of the art equipments and they sell it abroad and make money and jobs. Remove all the restrictions and see how our talented people will come out with super stuff.

Private sector may not participate in manufacturing defense equipment because they have to be world class and that needs immense amount of investment. You can make billions in India by selling Paan Paraag to aam aadmi by investing next to nothing!

these scoundrels who always try to downplay sincere efforts by our scientists should know ....if you have a family u will know that it runs by collective contribution. you dont go to work, earn for family, cook, clean, wash, sweep ..everything that runs a household. one person doesnt and cannot do everything. then bchoddd how can scientists of one country do everything for you ? ...invent, manufacture and take you on a ride to other galaxies ....chewwwtiyass of all varieties in this country.

does one single media group or newspaper has a scientific journalist to analyse the data and present it in more systematic manner ? I dont think so. Then all of you clowns should keep your vents tightly shut.

The so called most celebrated american Abram M1 tanks which they tout as world's best gets most of its gear from rheinmetall GmbH ...a german weapons manufacturer. Thats only one part of many such technologies.

Any eeediot here who thinks that one country or a bunch of scientists can master all arts of science...please raise their hands ...i need to rapid screw these loose nutsss... science and technology is largely collaboration and sharing of ideas. India will join the main league one the management puppies and economics chewtiyass invest more in technology and allow science to progress in this country. PERIOD.

indigenisation
by opoii kll on Jun 03, 2011 11:49 AM  | Hide replies

This process of indigenisation should have started very early.

For the first 30 years of independece, our leaders were sleeping.

Now they say that our research is not upto providing the latest in technology.

The airforce has to ask for the latest technology as they have to counter what is available with the neighbours.

Yeh, they were sleeping and you are working hard.

Comments like these reflects the understanding of today's youth regarding India's historical demography.

It is easy to talk that it could have been done in first 30 yrs, but can do you know the level of socio-economic hardship through which India was passing through at that time?
