I havent read the aritcle but is'nt obvious that when you reserve 90% of seats a few deserving candidates will benefit. What is the big deal in that ? It is also obvious that a coterie will soon emerge who will then start taking advantage of the reservation to promote dynasitc tendencies.

In TN, 89% of the population is put under reserved category...

So how do you term it as a success?

Can you please explain?

How is that Multimillionaires, Finance Ministers, Chief Ministers, Owners of big Television Companies and College owners and Real estate Magnates enjoy reservation?

Mr Dinesh, are you really a Tamil?

Virundombal is supposed to be highlight of Tamil Culture. We may have so many difference, but we should respect and welcome any visitor to TN and not demand him or her to know language and learn in 24 hours. Guest is GOD .

english - international language,
hindi - national language.
tamil - local language.

if i want to just survive happily, english / hindi should work. if i want to make good rapport with the local community, i SHOULD speak in tamil.

now, would you please let me survive at least?

Mr. Nigam Hindi is not a National Language. It is one of the Official Languages of Union of India. I am not justifying that people should learn Tamil when you are in Tamilnadu, but i do see a lot of hype here about you are not given Water when you don't ask in tamil and that is unbeleivable. Do not take one or two examples and show hatred toward the entire community.

Learning a language should be reciprocative. If you dont want to learn any Dravidian Languages then do not push the concept of South Indians learning Hindi. Just as a FYI, I am a tamilian who can read, write and speak Hindi.

All these views and reviews are welcomed against the Brahmins . But has anybody ever thought after so amny humiliations also Br tahmins does not raise their voice against injustice any where at least in the name of religion or caste . It is always the other people who taken the advantage of being born non-brahmin.Does any one believes that these UNWANTED BRAHMINS needs completely to be nonexisters in this current society . DO you believe that they should be driven out of INDIA into Pakistan ..or may be to Bangladesh ...?

Then Let the govt take some steps towards that .Why trust the guys who spread the hatred in society in the name of socialism ,and bla bla bla ...these people are hypocartes . Brahmins are only 1% of total population , But they create vote for about 300 MPs from another 80% people by creating hatred ..

Beaware of them ....

A bigger question i have is ? Is the existence or non existence of a particular caste (say Brahmins) alone cause or solution for all problems we face?

There are no Brahmins in Afghanistan, in Bangladesh, in Myanmar and in Laos - Why is that those countries are worse than India in all aspects of economics and social development?

There are no Brahmins in the 45 nations of Sub Saharan africa, so are they problem free and prospering and thriving?

Why is whole social issue (of past caste discrimination) made into a issue of whether a caste is bad or not? What a Nazist Nonsense?

Self Respect was all right 70 years back... today, the targeted caste is not even 0.5% of Government . Then what is the need to continue the same language? Even last week the Karunanidhi said in Assembly that one caste will be taught a lesson if they dont behave properly. And you can read Viduthalai kind of magazines to understand further on this. (And whenever a Periyar statue is broken - mostly by DK volunteers themselves, they attack and hurt some poor brahmins in some unrelated places). Why?

When it comes to Woman's Rights, Periyar and their followers never believed it seriously...

Periyar himself openly was a playboy in his earlier part of life and his first wife (Nagammai) suffered silently.

And then his second wife, a marriage to someone who would be like his daughter in his age.

Karunanidhi has 3 wives and MGR too had multiple spouses. And the person acting - Satyaraj himself has a dubious record on women's matters and he(Satyaraj) has wasted crores in trying to make his own son as hero, even as his daughter is asked to study MBA and forget Film Industry. Hypocrisy at its best.

There is not much credibility attached to the interview. Anyhow we came to know that Periyar was a sybaritic person who had the opporunity to get good education but chose not to. He talks of rights of women yet has a 2nd marriage in his old age.

Reservation in TAMILNADU
by on May 01, 2007 01:03 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In TamilNadu, close to 89% of the Population is categorized under the BC/MBC/SC-ST Categories....

So TamilNadu can show Reservation as a Success because, 89% of the Population in TN is categorised under Reserved Group...

This 89% includes multimillionaires (Shiv Nadar, Sivashankar, Kalanidhi Maran etc) and even people like Jeppiaar who own 20-25 colleges.

There is no point in talking about reservation successful in TN, because almost all the castes in TN are included under reservation.

RE:Reservation in TAMILNADU
by on May 01, 2007 01:07 AM  Permalink
Actually Periyar originally said that Reservation should be only for those who are not belonging to the Kshathriya, Vaishya and Brahmana Groups , since those groups did not suffer due to casteism of the past.

But in TN, the big Communities which are Kshatriyas (Landlords/Soliders/Warriors) and Vaishyas (Traders/Rich Businessmen) are categorised as OBCs.

kerala is no better. P Chidambaram belongs to the wealthy and socially powerful Natukkottai Chettiars and they are personally very wealthy and own textile businesses. But as per reservation rules, P ChiDambaram's grand daughter is a OBC in Kerala and she will enjoy reservation in Kerala. How is it?

Periyarists are always known to claim Ambedkar as a Periyarist... but the two differed on many many issues. Ambedkar may have lot of bad things to say on Hinduism, but he was a nationalist, who believed in unity of India. Periyar was certainly not one. His hatred towards North India (including North Indian OBCs, whom he hated equally) is legendary.

Recently, tamil movies have really turned violent with blood dripping sickels becoming common. Slowly it will move to real life and real people too start doing that. After all, cinema actors are gods in TN.

All this is the result of GOD devoted people leaving TN. What else proof does any one need that TN is going down.

Enough of making mockery of Democracy
by west on May 01, 2007 12:57 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

These so called secularist leaders have made enough fun of Democracy. After 60 years of independence - Indian secularist leaders proved one thing - that Democracy is only for muscle and money power, and vote bank politics. They proved that it's not for common man.

For a while, we need president's rule in India -where all are given equal treatment which is really secular - what democracy means. Is it possible, at all in India???
