Periyar's party and their offshoots worsened the caste seperation more than any other party....
His party was in cahoots with the British during Indian independence. History was corrupted to accomodate him since his party became the prominent party in TN.

I dont think Brahmins physically stopped dalits or others from studying or educating themselves.
It was other castes such as Thevars( who are still oppressing Dalits in areas such as Tirunelveli and you can read reports even now) who were perpetrating the maximum atrocities....

But Periyar and all these people did not have the guts to go against Thevars (who were a very powerful and violent community in TN) and others. They chose Brahmins instead since they know they would not fight back much.

Periyar was a complete coward.

Tamils don't have to be proud of Periyar
by tharun on May 01, 2007 09:44 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Tamils don't have to be proud of Periyar because is not a Tamil. He wanted tamil peoples to fight against each other so that the non-tamils living in Tamilnadu can rule the state and take away all the top posts. This is not possible if more educated Brahmins lives in the state. So he turned non-brahmin tamils against tamil brahmins and made the brahmins leave tamilnadu and settle in other states.

by wesley juin on May 01, 2007 08:24 AM  Permalink

all u guys posting msgs against periyar pl read some of his writings first. this guy had the guts to question the superstitious, illogical social practices including casteism. i'm shocked to see foolish boarders call him lunatic/coward etc., dont you know how he led the vaikom revolt? he was a man of principles unlike karunanidhi who can fall to any low level just to grab a few votes.

Brahmin still some times behave like kids, doesn't like others eating meat, that should be avoided.

Brahmin still some times behave like kids, doesn't like others eating meat, that should be avoided especially in foreign countries.

They came to higher positions a long back, when compared to another people, they are little more educated or in higher post, have different level of maturity, but they should little more flexible w/ others.

thats good point. but does not weigh the way you stress it. you see, there are lot of people who live healthy being non-vegetarian. may be vegitarianism can give little more benefit to health. but does not weigh as much it is stressed.

Periyar did more harm to the social fabric of Tamilnadu than what "brahmanism" did over the years..
