Ram Setu

In the archives of the Saraswati Mahal Library in Tanjore, exist some rare manuscripts that declare that this bridge was in use till 1486 AD
(Tanjore Saraswatimahal Library - Research by A. Gunaselaran) -- if one can save other ancient and archaelogical monumens, Ram Setu does deserve to be declared as a national monument and saved for posterity.

Every thinking about many angles.
But did any one think about how did Valmiki get this idea that there is a bridge some where down there. Did he cross that bridge and saw every thing is fine and started writing 'Ramayana'?
How do you think he WITOUT travelling some 3000 miles know all these things are existing.

by Bhagwandas Paliwal on May 21, 2007 05:03 PM

In the article, it is written that all he is asking is for realignment of route. As of now from picture, it is not clear what realignment can be done.
I would request author or somebody else to explain me the possible realignment.

Another point added to BJP agenda! But this is not only the question of a religion. This is the question of our heritage. Not only Hindus of Hindusthan, but each and every subject of BHARAT should fight against this Project of SETU SAMUDRAM.

It is not BJP Agenda it is a Bhartiya Agenda. If we are reading the News paper then we can not say this word. The N.paper headlind that 'CENTRAL GOVT. NE COURT MAIN HALIFNAMA PRASTUT KIYA HAI KI "NA TO KABHI RAM CHANDRA LANKA GAYA AUR NA HI SITA KA APHRAN HUA." If we relise this words then we can ask from Central Govt. that WO DEEPAWALI PAR BHADAI AUR DASHRA PAR ANITIK PAR NATIKATA KI BHADAI KYO DETI HAI. KYON RASTIYA PITA MAHATMAHA GANDHI NE MARTE KAHA KI "HEY RAM" KOUN THA WO RAM KYA VAGNIK ISKA KOI PRAMAN DE SAKTE HAIN.

No, Na then why you are thing to destroy the bridge. it is an ancient bridge so many years passed that bridge is like that only. Now a days people level of thing is differing. to provide service to public is good thing, not to earn more money. Can you find out any alternative way? We cannot touch the bridge. Why we have to destroy? It is an ancient and precious bridge which we cannot construct. one should think that millions of peoples faith in that bridge. The Govt. should give respect to peoples faith and should not destroy the heritage. May be this project is beneficial in one way , they should find an alternative to save this Ram Setu .

How will you cross the waters!!
by Thilak on May 17, 2007 08:09 PM  | Hide replies

I don't want to argue anything for or against the "Adams's bridge" or "Rama Sethu". But I only have a simple question to raise. I a group of people want to cross a waterbody that too a ocean, how will they do it? put yourself in that situation n think. At least from human history we know people swam across waters first..and then later started building ships to cross. I wonder who on earth will choose to fill an entire stretch of ocean with sand and stone instead of crossing it using boats. If they were so primitive to have invented boats, could it have been possible for them to fill ocean and cross it....sounds like imagination let loose! guys!! use ur head n not ur sentiment or heart b4 u respond..

Have you heard the greek epic wherein the king XERXES's a million men attacked sparta, on which hollywood recently came out with a movie "300",
they landed via ships, its laughable to think, you dropping stones into sea and waiting it to be leveled !!! try again think about it , remeber here we are talking about a sea not a river that runs by your village !!!!!

Bonjovi Sambora - you are right. This man,Thilak seems to be half-boiled.
Everwhere, there is a mention of RamSetu. In maps, Akananooru, in Indonesian temples, in Thailand - even in Ramnad district, the peoples' names are : Sethuraman, Sethumadhava, Sethupathy. If he says that imagination is let loose, then is it a fact or not:
-that Ram & Laxman appeared before Nawab of Golkonda in the recent past - 17th century;
-that Ram & Laxman appeared before the thieves
to get back the golden ornaments for Saint Thyagaraja just l80 years before;
-that Ram & Laxman appeared before the British Collector at Madhuranthagam (then Chingleput Dist) to protect the breach of lake just 150 years before.
Let him read the history and literature before commenting.

This argument is ultimately laughable, going by his logic we shouldn't have had *any* bridges anywhere in the world, all we needed was a set of boats to cross any waterbody.

Man, there is a concept of efficacy for a mode of transportation.

u dint get you history right. It is not for man Rama or Ravan to cross the sea.
It is for for Fleet of army to cross for war.
It is simple war tactics and they play a different ball game.

Pls think before u put anything in writing.

Even today.. the the sea depth below pamban bridge in rameshwarm varies between 2 Ft to 10 ft only... mean to say, it is a shallow sea. talking about thousands of years ago.. it could very well be possible that india & srilanka were seperated by the sea, which wasnt very deep. nd do u think its not possible to build a pathway for a few kilometeres.. using rocks & stone on a sea bed which is only few feet deep??

sam do you think nasa is the ultimate authority on everything. Our history books and ramayana clearly shows the entire journey Rama made starting from Aydodya to Srilanka. It matches with the land scape which are in existence today.Do not blaber as if you know every thing and donot think every thing a white man says is right. Simply go and get a copy of ramayana and read it so that you will get some sense.

If you are so inclined about the technicalities then why not dredge the Pamban Strait rather than Ram Setu, you have sufficiet space there. Even if for the time being we assume that it is a natural structure, there are a lot feelings and religious sentiments attached to it. It is just that the majority in india is always abused by a type political party to get votes, we see such projects happening. Moreover there is a type of minority in India who always like to see the religious sentiments of the majority being hurt. This political partymakes sure that their policies hurt majority to get votes from the monorities.

Get your facts right and read ramayana first, do you even know what was the army size and how many boats you have to construct for that. This is not the story that has been created 50 years back, this is part of our history with written evidence from thousands of years. Now when there are such concrete proofs of having the bridge precisely at same place , which as per NASA report is defintely man-made. I suppose only people like you can come out with such points.

The Govt. has said in a representation that there was no evidence to prove that there was a bridge there. Apart from the umpteen evidence given in this article, some more is here :

http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.as...3849125ed2eedd8

(this article contains an expert's opinion on the bridge).

Please also visit http://ramasetu.blogspot.com/ for more news and details.

But the biggest evidence is on the name of the project undertaken by the Govt. - "SETHUSAMUDRAM" Project.

All of know - Samudram means sea. Sethu means ??? Bridge - right ? That place was always linked to Sethu. The kings of Ramanathapuram, whose reign Rameswaram was under, were called with the suffix "Sethupathi" with their name - meaning the people who ruled over the location of the Sethu.

If Hindus remain silent like this, anybody can get over with such lies and arrogance.
