HDDCS story was a true carbon copy from Bengali/French Novel. Both of the novels are based on true stories based on the love affair of Maitrayee Devi (Bengali) and Mircha Iliyad (French). Mircha came to India to learn Indian culture/music etc. in Shantiniketan, where he met this lady. Mircha (played by Salman) left India and after long years when Maitreyi Devi is older, her wise husband suggested and allowed her to visit France to find his lost love. The Bengali novel written by the lady is called 'NA HANYATE' and the French novel written by Mircha is called "NA LUI BENGALI". Many scenes including where Aish chews the green peppers to have tears, and thier secret meeeting in library, etc. are carbon copied. Okk. Now the irony is the movie doesn't even bother to give a smallest credit to these novels. Pity.

HDDCS was completely inspired by Maniratnam's Mouna Ragam which had Mohan, Revathi and Karthik. but the treatment by Mani was so heart touching and Ilayaraja's music was just the icing on that fantastic cake :-)

carbon copy eh?....a story is not the film....to turn text into film is an elaborate and unique process in itself...the film may hooks or have sources from many books or films etc. but visualization and structuring cannot be carbon copied.

Even those are carbon copied by Bollywood, Kunal. A lot of Malayalam films had been lifted just like that by Bollywood. Its after Priyadarsan came to Bollywood that others stopped lifting, because he became a strong part of Bollywood and began remaking his Malayalam movies, and thus opening up the knowledge that many Malayalam movies have already been remade in Hindi, without giving due credit to the originals. But now the media is knowledgeable, and someone points out everytime.

when we have people defending plagiarism and unacknowledgement of original sources abound, these filmmakers continue to steal!
Stars like Anil Kapoor and directors like David Dhawan, Anees Bazmi, Satish Kaushik etc. owe their career to dozens of directors/ writers from Tamil and Telugu industries who never got credit, even for frame-by-frame copies. The only way to counter this is through lawsuits. But, the copyright laws in India can never help the victims.

Agreed. However, please read Rajani's last line. What stops from giving credit where its due?
bhansali is one of the most sophisticated copy cats of the industry and the film fraternity lauds him for being one. ::HDDCS- was copied from woh saat din which itself was a remake of a south film. ::Devdas--a remake of earlier which itself was adapted ::black--copied from miracle worker and from the life of annie besant. ::sawaariya--poor copy of a tamil film iyarkai which won national award for being realistic..this film was far from realism. ::guzaarish--seems to be copied from whose life is it anyway? this time he has gone international..applauses ::The only nice movie he made in his career till now is kamoshi helped by some amazing performance. ----stop respecting him he screws good scripts and acts as if he is a magical filmmaker---

Bhansali knows how to pack old wine in an attractive looking bottle. He is not original but I feel sad to see a copy cat getting high acclaims..! Now I feel to turn into a director.., as innovative, original ideas are with me

I agree, some scenes in the trailer like the one whr hritik falls into water and floats in the air looks inspired by the prestige, but again SLB and Chris Nolan ??? no comments :-P

its prestige diving bells & butterfly mar adentro... SLB is one of the most overrated director who cleverly steals scenes from various films & poses as a maestro...
Re: Re: Re: Wasteeee
by Kunal Chandra on Oct 03, 2010 04:40 AM
who's calling him a maestro....he may steal, lift, whatever, but he is a competent enough director....being which...believe me folks...is a bloody difficult job

totally agree with u Ramen.guzarish is 90% copy of "mar adentro"...all the movies of SLB is copied from some or another movie, whether it is devdas, black or guzarish....nd he is not a director,he is a copier.and he is talk about innovation, such a shameless baaastrd.
thats it! a flop. copying a non watchable flick prestige. cant we do anything original? karan johar is better as he makes funny and moronic tales like MNIK. at least you can laugh at gayrukh's comedy and shaking his empty head!
Re: flop
by harsh tankaria on Oct 04, 2010 08:26 PM
Guzarish will be big hit. The matter which differentiate all these Hollywood movies and Guzarish is acting and chemistry of Hrithik and Ash.
Re: Guzaarish is a copy of The Prestige
by pawan mishra on Oct 01, 2010 07:02 AM
The Prestige was about the rivalry between two great magician but i dont think thats the case with Gujaarish. BTW the Prestige was awesome with great performance by both lead actor Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale
I think, this movie would be a class act...on the lines of black..with a tragic ending...The acting from Hrithik roshan and Aishwarya rai would be awesome so would be the direction. Hrithik will win the best actor award too..But unfortunately in India, such movies dont work..It doesnt matter if the movie is good, the acting is good or the story is good...if its not entertaining in some way, it would be a flop..But Ironically the only other movie like this that worked at the box office was Sanjay leela bhansalis Black..so ll have to wait and see...most likely it will be Average to FLOP
Re: Movie's standing at the boxoffice after release
by Khushi on Oct 01, 2010 11:56 AM
you summed it up here.. even though the movie would be great with splendid music, class acting and great direction, it will not work, coz the average indian cannot stand anything that is above the usual crap.. they would go for slapstick comedy with forced jokes and double meaning dialogues.. or the ones with loud crappy dialogues and vulgar scenes.. the success of movies like kambakht ishq, dabangg, phir hera pheri, partner, hey baby, housefull, and many more is a glaring example.

the tragedy is tht u think Aishwarya will do great "acting"...
Re: Re: Movie's standing at the boxoffice after release
by Khushi on Oct 03, 2010 10:55 AM
And comedy is that quite a few fools will miss her good acting, presuming that she will perform badly... such people are fit for the de dana dan crap...
