Im a SRK admirer, but i am not blinded by the hype or by stardom. The fact is that MNIK is a good movie...or to be more precise, a competent movie, but Mr. Parekh, while you call 3I a manipulative movie, dont forget that MNIK manipulates in many more ways. One of the easiest way to get people like you on their side is for moviemakers to show the protagonist to be afflicted. Add to that the strong Muslim fanbase that SRK has all over the world, and the theme of the movie making them more than eager to line up the theatres, its just a well thought out business strategy to encash on the sympathy as well as the Muslim identity factor. The story is in no way based on realism beside the response of the various affected parties post 9/11. The Americans were scared and extra cautious and the muslims took offense to the fact that they were all looked upon with suspicion. Besides that there isnt a iota of realism in the movie. The man is in jail for something and some student reporters make a crusade out of his imprisonment. Many other such people were in prisons and nobody gave a damn. Its part of a film's plot to bring the main protagonist front and center and i have nothing against that at all. But its all manipulative and add to that a fake incident of Rizwan going back to georgia to resurrect the community single handedly and everything is rosy again.
I still dont see how a autistic lacking the feelings of hate and almost afflicted with goodness and inablility to do wrong

Well, 749 comments already. Those who hate Shah Rukh Khan all have commented here at least TEN TIMES. Even any article on 3 Idiots does not have such a huge response.

First of all, MNIK is an impressive movie. It is not a great cinema but certainly a decent effort from someone who could easily have made a blockbuster romcom. Have to acknowledge that he stuck his neck out. The movie is NOT made for masses and hence will not generate the kind of revenue 3 Idiots or Ghajini did. But it is more subtle than both mentioned above.

3 Idiots was entertaining but very manipulative. Not alone Raja Sen, even Rajeev Masand (one of the The smartest film critics) criticized 3I (gave 3 stars because it offered entertainment in the joyous christmas season)

MNIK has opened to a deafening response and generated 90Cr in three days. for a film of this genre such figures are unheard of. Also, we should not forget that the film will be released in other 25 countries starting April.

with due respect to Aamir (wonderful actor), only someone as big as Shah Rukh Khan can pull of such figures for a Movie like My Name Is Khan which is a SERIOUS MOVIE based on MUSLIMS. We can not compare it to 3Idiots or Ghajini (seriously Dumb).

Forget,Aamir (Ghajini/3I) MNIK will struggle to get past Veer's 1st week collection of 41 crore in India..it only got 29.5 crore frm India and crashing almost 80% Monday onwards..its chasing FLOP

No. Three idiots, inspite of being a MASS ENTERTAINER didn get the kind of opening MNIK has recieved.

To put it simple, If Shah Rukh khan was in 3 idiots, it would have probably done more business!

I dont underestimate Aamir Khan as an actor. Agree that he has done more subtle work than SRK. but SRK is an ultimate croud puller and there is no denying.

yes SRK is a crowd puller for sure. but MNIK has proved he can't pull crowds for more than 3 days and make his movie a hit now. he's losing his touch while on the other hand Amir is doing better roles as usual and has started pulling crowds too:-)

After so much free publicity and controversy, MNIK was bound to get this kind of opening. So, no surprises (for me at least). But, will it be able to sustain, like 3i? That is the real question. Seems difficult now!!!

If SRK were in 3i, it would not have worked. His comic timing is quite poor. He has never succeeded in full-fledged comic roles.
My sincere apology to all SRK fans:)

I have always believed that srk, akshay and their movies are full of hype and no substance. And this movie only reinforces that fact.

Aamir and hrithik are the real superstars whose acting and movies match their star status.

Amitabh is a living legend and he is incomparable.

Judgement of Flop or Hit
by kamlesh jain on Feb 16, 2010 05:16 PM

During 60s,70s and 80s about 70 to 200 prints of a Hindi film used to be released in India. During those days no Producer/Distributor/Exhibitor and CRITICS could befool the audience by false publicity and manipulated reviews. If film is good, it will gather it's momentum by mouth to mouth publicity. Only for initial 3 days The Producer/Distributor/Exhibitor used to gather collections based on star cast and it's publicity and that too on very little screenigs on small number of prints. During those days, the masses used to call a film as hit or flop based on the days of run of the movie. But now Producers have found the way to befool the public. They make a movie of 30 to 50 crore Rupees, without a good storyline by taking big stars in it and release 800 to 4000 prints simultaneously all over the World. The film is released in almost every cineplex of big cities and atleast in one cinemahall of small towns. In this case, before people know about the movie, just on the basis of it's false publicity and reviews, public find itself in a cinemahall near to their house in first initial days of the release of the film and gets deeply disappointed. The film goes out of the cinemahall within a week or two but by then it recovers it's money.Sometimes even makes profits and gets the tag of a HIT. Is it the right way of earnig money by befooling Public. Pl comment.
