truly a masterpiece
by vimalan sadhasivam on Apr 06, 2010 08:56 AM  | Hide replies

if ever there is a movie that can both touch your heart and pain you at the same time, but still you'll love it, this is the one. After watching so many craps like VTV, this has come as a breathe of fresh air. All actors have done a marvelous job especially heroine Anjali. This surely is an award winning performance. And finally hats off to Vasantha Balan for his guts and sensitivity. He is one of the best we have now. We need more Vasantha Balans.

PS: This is Vasantha Balan's 3rd movie and not 2nd as mentioned here. His first one is Album.

Good Movie in Tamil after a long hiatus
by vinesh on Apr 06, 2010 08:23 AM

It was quite heartening to note that there are people who still appreciate good cinema, thanks to movies like Angadi Theru. Like many others I too was disturbed after watching this movie. I would say that it is may be due to our sense of guilt.
The character portrayals are very much realistic that u feel one among them and it is indeed the work of the director and kudos to the whole team.
After seeing a slew of dumb movies like VTV, and all sun films productions, this movie had turned out be a big relief and a good sign that good movies in Tamil can still be expected.

5) Finally if you are one amongst the elite community employing them and introducing them to such conditions, remember their will be time in your life where you will not be able to pardon yourselves. So mend your ways and improve your staffs working conditions or face your conscious in the future.

May god prevail on all of us especially those amongst us who are devoid of it!

I agree 200% with you Harish!!!
Good one, I also had the same nerves when I watch the movie. I felt ashamed for the food I wasted over the time and the wrong looks I gave to the shopkeeper. Now it's time for a change

My review - Part 2
by Harish on Apr 05, 2010 11:56 PM  | Hide replies

The impact is so much that it has made me write my first review. I kept pondering over what you and I can do to change the conditions of such deprived people? I could think of have some answers....

1) First, watch this movie only in theatre, such movies should be financially successful as well, it will have a spiraling positive effect on other producers and directors to take such bolder social theme.

2) Second, if you really care for such people, tip them liberally the next time you shop. Every rupee counts for them!

3) Third, This movie is not about Saravana Stores alone... this has to seen in a wider perspective. This is about all establishments or individuals who employ uneducated youth. Our Tamil Nadu Government should step in and provide guidelines and laws that protect the interests of such people. Strict enforcement should be brought in place everywhere!

Our appeal to Hon'ble chief minister Shri. M. Karunanidhi.

Sir! please do something about this! This is our humble request! God has bestowed you the powers to change things than all of us put together. Please watch this movie yourself and you will know why!

4) Fourth, educate or support the growth of at least one person in your life! This will not result in a difference to the big picture but it will make a difference to that one life! If all of us could do that, we can change the face of tomorrow’s youth. I am going to make this my priority from today.

I have a suggestion. Why opportunities are available only in Chennai/Kovai/Madurai? I mean why these people shd leave their comfort zone and come somewhere else? Work to make greater opportunities available for them in their place itself. Work to make agriculture and small scale industries as lucrative as any other industry. These people are the lifeline of our nation and have to be respected as such.

My Review - Part 1
by Harish on Apr 05, 2010 11:55 PM

This is no ordinary movie! It is a new generation of movie! A movie that will unearth some wisdom in you! A movie you can relate to! A movie that keeps running long after the credits run on the screen...yes! it is very hard to notice the difference between the movie and the real life.

A movie is in the similar genre of Anbe Sivan, Taare Zameen Par...

What a revolutionary movie! I am writing this at 1 am because I could not sleep after watching this movie. This movie will hit you and hit you really hard.

First of all, I was ashamed of myself that I have never thought of the struggle and challenges of so many people whom I meet everyday. How many times I would have yelled at a salesman! What an insensitive moron I have been to such people! Shame grips you right from the beginning of the movie.

It is hard to explain or understand the fatigue and exploitation of young people unless you watch this movie. Next time you visit a store or a one stop shop or a hotel, you will observe differently the people serving you. You will immediately notice the fatigue and their inner lives behind their smiles.

I could neither eat nor sleep after watching this movie, and for the first time I watched a disturbing movie and still can't help liking the movie. On one end you feel the sense of gratitude to god for the good lives we all enjoy and on the other end you wonder whether god exists in first place after watching the sufferings of many?

Why 'ALBUM' is not counted?
by Shanmuganandan on Apr 05, 2010 08:30 PM

As its a flop, Vasantha Balan's 1st Film Album is not mentioned by both the interviewer & Vasantha Balan himself.

One of the best movies...ever.
by coolbuddysen on Apr 05, 2010 07:58 PM

I would like to thank director (Vasant) for giving such a relalistic and at the same time entertaining & engrossing movie. This movie has already attained a cult classic movie status among viewer's. Though this movie was a love story but still the director had added lot of msg's and given importance to all the side actors. The movie though emotional also had good humour. This shows the quality of the director were a story was based in a particular street but had so many sublots and they were all blended perfectly & beautifully without any loop holes and the way he has extracted performances from all the artists is exceptional. But a special mention should be made on actress (Anjali) and hero's friend (pandi) acting they made the movie memorable. This movie will have a long lasting impression on viewer's mind and no one can forget the characters for a long time. And thats a triumph for the director. Hat's off to u vasant sir. Pls direct similar kind of movie's in future for tamil cinema to get recogonized globally. Hope this movie becomes a bigger hit than critically overrated & hyped movie vinnay thandi varuvaaya which was too bland. Lastly Angadi theru movie is in the league of movies like paruthiveeran, kaathal, 7G, veyyil etc which is great for tamil cinema.
