damn rediff.. has to take a break on rahman or collect all the photos that they receive and later make a slide show and put it in a link. instead of making a news headline of each and every photo it gets from its readers. i think rediff hopes he will compose some jingle for its website.
Even there are musicians who are greater than raja and msv like sdburman, naushad, roshan. The point here is not who gave the best melodious numbers and all time great hits but who has made us proud by clinching two oscars at a time.Undoubtedly it is one and only A R Rahman
Rahman's music of slumdog millionaire is meant for westernised indians. His music which got him oscars is unknown to the ordinary Tamil. There has been so many good songs/music by Viswanathan(Ramamurthy) and Illayaraja who scored music for numerous tamil(and other southern language) films, which have not earned them so much praise because of their regional confines. These songs are immortal unlike Rahaman's whose songs are popular only for a short time. I agree Rahman himself has some songs to his credit which will be remembered for long- but their number is small compared to Viswanathan's and Illayaraja's hits. Rahman's achievement will be judged not by his oscars but how long his creations are remembered.

Weldone Angela the real geniuses are Viswanathan Ramamurthy and Ilaya Raja to a certain extent. Rahman was there at the right time but still lets thank him for getting India's name on the Hollywood map-lets not forget that YGEEM

Although both Viswanahthan and Ilayaraja are great , they can never match Rahman's range. For example, you take any Ilayaraja hit and try it with Hindi lyrics, it will not work. But take any work of Rahman, like Chinna chinna asai or Kanalaney, they sound good both in Tamil and Hindi (even in Telugu too). This is something that is something special, deserving much more than an Oscar. Even Viswanathan and Ilayaraja would agree!!!

whats the problem if Ilayarajs'a tuning does not sync with hindi lyrics...he has done music keeping mind in southern ordians not of any other language.....and If one's tune do not sync with Hindi lyrics that does not make him....a brillian composer.....I also an ardent fan of rahman.....but no one has still born to reach Ilayaraja heights.....

IR is great but one thing where he cant compete with ARR is SNR (Sound to Noise Ratio), which is the ratio of good songs to lousy unhearbale ones. IR in his peak used to do 3-40 movies per year. Some of his creations were gems whereas others can only be termed as noise. Just plain arrogant composing. Poor hapless producers didnt have the guts to argue with IR that he should give better music. Whatever IR gave was music. Name any ARR album and most people would say that it is by ARR and most albums had some great numbers.

Guys....especially...angela, whom I know it is a guy faking as a girl. I have always had the argument, for the last 17 years Raja vs Rahman. Raja is a wonderful melody musician. Raja, viswanathan, they are fantastic melody musicians. But the story ends there. Rahman is a true great. Which you guys should learn to respect and be very proud of. He is musical genius. Which chennai should be very proud of. Raja and viswanathan, were not able to cross Tamil Soil.BTW, I live in Ipswich, UK.
