Dear Ambika Devi
Do u know how Mr.Mammootty keeps his young looks, health, body and voice. It's only hard work, regular exercise, controlled diet and a youthful mind. He's 55 now but how many people at that age r able to maintain all this. Most of the actors gain stardom at middle age because then only they will get maturity in selecting roles.More over actors like Mammootty and Mohanlal r always ready to accept good films without looking at the commercial elements needed for the Box Office Suceess. How many superstars in Indian films except Kamal Hassan r ready to play roles like Ponthanmada,Vidheyan,Mathilukal,Ore Kadal or Vastuhara,Vanaprastham,Paradesi etc.....etc.It's their personal decision whether to keep going or retire or shift to another field.

Mallu Mentality
by pradeep joy on Feb 01, 2008 02:12 PM  | Hide replies

Our friend TIT-O displays another Mall flight of fancy:
Only Malls and Bongs have brains (based on the indisputable "scientific proof" that both eat tons of fish, support communism and are self proclaimed intellectuals) He also claims that
only Mall and Bengali movies are Oscar worthy.
My friend tell me which Bengali movie have you SEEN lately? and no crap about Pather Panchali and Satayit Ray (May his soul rest in peace)
Please check my comments on Lal in an earlier blog on College Kumaran this just proves what a bunch of conceited hypocrites we are.
Anytime Lal or Mammooty act without makeup in some movie nobody has ever seen (Ambedkar, Paridesi) we crow about award possibilies, although Oscar's is really optimistic.
Rest of the year they churn out masala turd ,
Why don't fan's be honest and say it stinks?
Check out the blogs for Flash.. "excellent , flexible performance by our great Lalettan" writes one idiot " a true treat for Fans" he continues. I've seen the movie and its utter crap. Its even worse than that other blunder Vismayathumathu. Lal and that girl looked like father and daughter.
THAT is the truth. At least I have the guts to say it. Sorry that other malls lack spine and brains to follow.

Well said Pradeep..II totally agree..

used to admire Mamooty for his histrionic abilities but he has fallen a victim to the rat race and ends up doing ridiculous movies....

I think the biggest bane of the stars is their "fans" themselves !!!!

If u dont like any actor please stop watching his film. The same way you have no right to ask others or abuse them if thay watch a particular film. Your problem is that you are going to watch a movie for an actor. Movie is an art of a Director and an actor is a tool. Dont blame anybody , stop watching Ma/Mo movies, producers will not fund further for them.

Dude none of you are getting the point.
My whole issue is the present quality of Mall movies which is largely due to the fact that Mammooty and Mohanlal continue to play larger than life characters in outlandish and costly movies that flop at the box office.
Both of them are excellent actors doing wrong roles again and again.
There is no question of liking or disliking.
In the 80's and 90's we had along with good Superstar movies a parallel stream of low budget , yet high quality movies that were box office hits also. Examples would be the Satyan Anthikad movies, (Sandesham, Talayanna Mantram, Mazhavill kavadi), Stars like Mukesh , Jagadish, Sidique, Jayram, Sreenivasan alone and in combination churned out hits, Actors like Jagathy were utilized in the best possible way (Check out Moonam Pakkam, Apoorvam Chillar).
Even Ramji Rao speaking, Godfather , Harihar Nagar were all low budget but highly successful efforts.
At that time Malayalam industry was at its creative and innovative best and audiences were appreciative of good movies , not bothered if it starred so and so. The decline started when Lal and Mamooty started doing roles like Aram Thamburan,Ravanaprabhu , Dubai, etc, which were costly affairs and led to the drying up of other movies. Now we depend only on Superstar releases with an odd Srinivasan being the only rep of parallel cinema.
Earlier we had hits like Irupatam Nootandu but also movies like Aparan, Mookilarajathu etc

Mate, dis is precisley what i have been feeling for so long? I m myself a malu, but stil dont get the logic of mallus proclaiming themselves as kings of aesthetic cinema...the world has moved miles ahead, yet mallus are stuck wid their nalukeetu-set movies and yawn-inspiring camera work...anything the big two come up with is hailed a classic...the truth is, mal movies lost their sting a long time ago...these days no movie is watchable, forget likeable..

Right friend Aghushay GGumar ( is that how you pronouce your name) only "Thanni Countries" like you can appreciate a 50 plus grandpa donning a funny wig, shaking his wrinkly arms and legs with girls young enough to be their grandaughters and mouthing supposedly "funny" dialogues, getting lifted by tired stuntmen to perform "Bantasdic" fights while the complex story line concern such important issues like converting to Christianity to please adopted mom, marrying sweetheart after 25 years besides solving a murder while hovering in a helicopter,
Protecting Kozhikode Market so that Koya doesn't get bejaar, Solving a case through hypnotism, Wooing the shrew through drumming and wagging a pony tail...awesome , fit for Oscar material indeed..

Those kind of films may be for u dear. I never watch such masala movies. Unlike u i watch movies based on the theme, director etc. rather than who is acting in those movies. I never watch a movie simply because Mammootty and Mohanlal has acted in it. But ur language itself speaks a lot about u dear. Don't worry. Everything will be alright. God sometimes creates people like u also. So nothing can be done.

Correct we are labelled as intelligent.
Hmmm see you chickend out after supporting the supers for so long? Good for you.
Last years good movies were Arabikatha , Katha Parayumbol (concept was good), Achan Urangatha Veedu, Detective (Good script), Chocolate was OK.. My point is that this number could be double if supers cease to excercise their giant egos. Nothing personal..

Mammooty and Mohanlal
by K Binu on Feb 01, 2008 01:39 PM  | Hide replies

Its high time that Mammooty and Mohanlal take up roles befitting their age and physique. Admitted they are supreme actors. But it looks awkward when one sees these veteran actors running around the trees with girls who would not have probably been born when these heros were started acting. Today scriptwriters are trying to create stories for the so called superstars rather than trying for some novel creative idea.

As long as it doesnt gets exposed in the movie, you shouldn't worry. When you watch the movie, forget about what the hero is in real life... Do you believe that any hero is as good as in the movie..? Then why bother about his age in real life.? if he really looks old and he is shown as college kid, then you should start worrying.

Mammootty the Mega Star !
by TITO AKKARA on Feb 01, 2008 01:34 PM  | Hide replies

Its only due to the bitter fact that Mammootty comes from the South India Quartlet States that none of his movies has't gone for the Oscars. Instead of sending those stupid Hindi movies, kindly try sending some of the Malayalm, Tamil movies to the Oscars. Dont be surprised if they come back Oscar-in-hand. With due respect to all North Indian Language movies, I hardly find quality films there except the Bengali movies. Needless to say that Bengali movies are the best in quality in India.

TITO - please do understand that any director can send their movie to Oscars independently. Even south Indian directors can do that as well...fact is, we don't have that quality/attitude. even some directors work, it won't do well commercially. most of the commercial hit movies in india are stupids. but there are some promising directors with out motivation. Please do note that people won't get oscor if they act without any make-up..

That must be the joke of the year. Taare Zamin Par and Chakde India are TWO among the hundreds of movies made in Hindi every year that rise beyond being utter trash. They raise the quality of Hindi movies, but the fact is that 75% of movies made in Malayalam are of comparable or better quality than these two.

Can you please tell me from where thaniyavarthanam and bharatham are copied from.. hollywood-- iranian--- french... Then who the hell told you hollywood films are not copied stuff.. so many films are copied from french, russian, iranian.. but people like u.. who are living here and is always dreaming of becoming an english man will never know because u people just don't see the other languages...

Obviously you have neither a job nor are you fit (mentally and physically) to work.
Living of Parents money, studying forever (scoring HIGH third class), useless to society and family. Getting a kick out of burdening the family further by using up internet charges and getting an occassional kick by grabbing the middle aged housekeeper during a power cut.
Although your granny didn't really complain when you mistakenly attacked her..
