unnecessary criticism
by SOUMITA SAHA on Oct 23, 2006 08:48 PM

Sukanya, the review (which you have written)clearly shows that you are completely envious of SRK.The film is pretty good, especially SRK is absolutely awesome.(its a pity that you have not realised it).if you cannot praise anyone, then plzzzz stop this unnecessary criticism.neways YOUR OPINION HARDLY MATTERS.The box office reports in the coming weeks will prove that SRK ROCKS.

Don I was the story of Vijay who stepped into Don's shoes and Don 2 is the story of DON. That's wht the need for twists.

The reviewers need to let go their fear of liking new things
by Pankaj on Oct 23, 2006 05:46 PM

Farhan's Don is definitely a bolder stand, and possibly more closer to Salim-Javed's original vision.
<br>
Once we all agree that Amitabh is the coolest one, and that his Don can never be surpassed in performance, there's a case for moving on an appreciating for what the new Don is about -

Old wine in new bottle.. errrr.. in new tin.

'78 DON was as much about a good guy helping police and getting trapped in the process as it was about the DON. And how convincing Bachchan was in the role, in both the roles in fact. He was the paan chewing bhaiyya, he was the dangerous DON. He didn't even have to say 'Bahot khatarnaak hoo main'. He looked khatarnaak. 2006 version is more jazzy, polished, but not convincing enough. SRK remains SRK for entire length of the movie and never becomes the DON or the Bhaiyya. he just plays the role. And again, the movie is all about DON only (and not about the good guy taking don's place - HOW I FOOLED THE AUDIENCE- FARHAN).

There are other things as well...

The key characters of Malik and DeSilva are changed to an extent that Malik becomes obsolete, almost. And Inspector Verma just disappears (again almost); in the 78 version Verma was a vital part of the script. Why did JK cross the skybridge of petronas twin towers could not he come down all the way in the same tower?

Almost whenever Farhan changed the original script, he failed miserably, and whenever he stuck to the original lines, the new one looked shabby compared to old one. Ill sell my tickets to new DON for old one

Thats right.. SRK failed to convince. Where is the fault? But his performance in duplicate as a villian was superb.. he has that potential. I think Farhan did not do justice to his actors, particularly SRK.

pretentious rubbish

a big letdown from farhan this time. i completely agree with sukanya. that it doesn\\\'t measure up to the original comes as no surprise but that is hardly my quibble. the new don is too long and is ridden with cliches. the twist that i\\\'ve heard some people are raving about is shockingly contrived. the acting, at best, is ordinary. this a super example of a movie where substance gets compromised for style. having said that, i am sure this movie will do well at the box office. after all, aren\\\'t we all known to celebrate mediocrity?

DON
by Kamlesh Bishnoi on Oct 23, 2006 12:40 PM

I think its a wonderful movie. After reading ur review I was in 2 minds whether to c the movie. But since I am a die-hard Shahrukh Khan fan I decided to watch it just for Sharukh's sake. Hats-off to Farhan Akhtar that amidst so much of pressure he cud make the movie he wanted to. I am very happy that he chose his own way in the 2nd half rather than making the same old don. Otherwise it wud have been too predictable to keep the interest throughout. All in all- Splendid movie!!

The review is near perfect except rating should have been only *.I would any time prefer to watch original Don rather than watching this dud which is no better than SRK'S Duplicate
