The best music direction even today is rahul dev burman (PANCHAM). With all the remixes, he leads the charts even now. AR Rehman cant even come close to RD Burman in terms of music and talent
AR Rehman leads the bandwagon. Though he is associated with international music more, his rhythms and sense of melody is amazing and surpasses the others.
Ismail Darbar is very good too. He is great playing around with ragas and classical music and adds a mystery to his songs.
Shankar Ehsan Loy have to shed their western influences to make it big. But compared to the others they jump in high up the ladder.
None of the other directors compose music - They mix sounds, thats all. Himesh's so called music makes me constipated..always!
there is no doubt that rahman is the best music director in India. he has been giving top music from the time he emerged in indian cinema field. there is still none to be compared with him
LEt's see how repetitive AR REHMAN if he composes 6 movies in succession and let's see if he has 26 hits in a row.
I remember people thought that AR REHMAN was all sythesized and repetitive at one time. BUt, now that he has got western recognition, people think he is the best.
WHat a joke! IF HR all of a sudden get's western recognition people will start saying he is the best.
I think he is the best , because he was innovative and turned the tables of indian music. NObodoy was offering anything new. Why do you think his music took off. People were desperate for something new. He has forced us to enjoy different voices and sounds. He is a innovator and helped indian music turn a corner and into a new realm. Now everybody is trying new sounds
An innovator is always criticized at the beginning. Not one composer has created his track record.
If anything I think he should use his voice less and not let others have the benefit of listening to such a unique voice all the time. He should use it sparingly

I would like to say without any questions, AR Rahman, is best because he has been in the Industry since 15 yrs and ruling,
This fellows will come and go HR is repetative, all songs to me looks same.
Ismail only one credit to his cap.
Pritam and Vishal some people doen\'t even know them and Vishal song Dhoom machade where it is now do u no, It\'s in the GARBAGE. No one listens that song now. If u hear Rahman songs, ROJA, DHDM, BOMBAY, DIL SE, TAAL and ofcourse SAATHIYA all time favourites
Presently, no doubt about it... Himesbhai. Catchy stuff that, more importantly, isn't caught from other sources. Though he's spreading himself just a wee bit thin presently, evidenced by his scores for Chup Chupke and Phir Hera Pheri, the beginning of one tune from the latter even sounding more than a trifle familiar. But something also tells me he was pulled in for them at the last minute.
