One can either speak against or in favour of a subject / topic. Well, Mr. Raja Sen has chosen to speak against 'BLACK' - one of teh milestones of Indian Cinema. That goes without any doubt. Be it direction, performances, settings... anything... for that matter.
Surely, Paheli a an unjustified choice for Oscars as compared to 'Black'.
I don't know What Mr. Sen has seen in 'Paheli' than the brilliance in each department in 'Black'.
There is a hell of difference between Paheli and Black, BLACK IS UNDOUBTEDLY a great movie, and I appreciete Sanjay Leela's patience...He is a great Film Maker....
I am not critisizing any Movie, but including me, everybody around liked only Black, because they (Oscar) rate a movie, only if it is a Movie.....
Has lagaan been Successful in Oscar?
Look at the Acting of Amitabh and Rani, and now compare......I have seen a movie like Paheli in my Childhood, you should be gutsy enough to remake a movie like BLACK, if it is remake and everybody liked it.....
I totally agrred with the writer Raja Sen. When I saw Black I had the exact sentiments of the writer - abt AB, Rani, S L Bhansali and the movie and all. Thumbs up to u for writing this article.
The headline led me into reading this article, thinking I'll get an insight behind the selction of Paheli over Black. But I rightly stopped after reading that Amitabh Bachchan 'hams' in the movie. If there's any analogy to hamming in writing, I think u win the award hands down.
Paheli is a good Oscar selection- may be it does not have a huge message , but it is India. It is colour, it is folktale, it is desert, rustic talk and behaviour- so it is undoubtedly India. Paheli also has a panache ! SRK is a trump-card; his romance and delightful sense of timing are second to none. Rani, with her beautiful smiles and joyful acting is a delight to watch too. Black ? Exactly as Mr Raja Sen says, it tries so hard to be taut and impressive, it is actually annoying. It is neither here nor there. In fact Amitabh's acting, the little girl's overacting, Rani's totally unemotional gestures and expressions are all quite a ham. Most important, it is a terrible copy of a beautiful film from the West. Swadesh of course- acting-wise, reality-wise, and direction-wise, is the most superior movie of 2005. Yet it may not impress an Oscar jury, the film teethering between a feature film and a documentary, the heroine weak, the romance too diffidently underplayed. And Iqbal, a fine movie, could have been considered too. Though I wonder, if it'd have made quite the impact 'native' Paheli can make. So,c'mon, SRK and Amol, go seduce Hollywood, bring the Oscar to India!
You are an absolute bullshit . You have no idea about films. Stop all your crap and try concentrating on your work. Tell me from your heart if you were not paid a full suit case full of money which I am sure you were would you dare to write such a review for a bullshit film and its actor ( Shah Rukh).
Mr Sen It pains me to see how a person completely devoid of any sensem like you, has been allowed to publish an article here. Fine, Paheli is a good film, but your absolutely appaling lack of respect for Black proves why i beleive that movies like black are not meant to seen by people, like yourselves, revelling in mediocrity and incompetence to digest anything of even moderate artistic value!!
