this is good topic. i would like to say that we shud not cast in original stars or their kids like abhishek, sunny, esha or javed as they wud be aptly compared to their parents.
my choice would be salman and sharukh for jai and veeru, bhumika and rani against sallu and SRK resp as their jodi as being very good. bhumika suits that sati savitri look more than any other actress.
villans role can go to shakti kapoor for his real life villany resemblence. now coming to sanjeev kumars role, i think sanjay dutt can play that role as he is aged and matured too.
jagdeep role and asranis role shud be going to paresh rawal and johny lever two best comedian in todays bollywood.
No doubt abhishek and Rani as Amitabh and Jaya bhaduri, Uday chopra and Esha as Dharmendra and Hema and for Gubber I don't know the name who played main villain Role in Mela (Cast Amir and Twinkle).
I Still feel that Kamal Hassan & Rajinikanth could do the roles of Amitabh & Dharam fro the original & still pull it off. Even if Ajay Devgan / other north indian stars play the roles, I feel the Music for such a magnum opus should be done by the Genius Ilayaraja - leave alone the songs, just for a powerful Background Score, it should be Ilayaraja - Not even AR Rahman could fit the bill. Let All India know that we have a Music Director who is world class - only one who's Hollywood class.
according to me new generations sholay should have
shahrukh khan or abhishek bachan in place of amitabh bachan salman khan or bobby deol or hritik roshan in place of dharmendra rani mukherjee or preeti zinta in place of hema malini juhi chawla or aishwarya rai in place of jaya bachan aushotosh rana or nana patekar in place of amjed khan rajpal yadav or arshad warsi in place of jagdeep
the names written first is my choice and second is applicable only if the first names are not taken into consideration
in my opinion the best cast for sholay is aamir khan as jai abhishek bachchan as veeru preity zinta as basanti and should look for a new face for the role of gabbar
