I fully agree with Pankaj Udhas that remixes are an insult to Music. One should not intrude on someone else's creative work and call it a "Remix". To me it is as ridiculous as putting a moustache on Monalisa or painting a different color on the Taj Mahal.
It is indeed very unfortunate if a remarkable ghazal artist like Pankaj Udhas would have to depend upon the packaging and music video of his ghazal and not it's sheer quality.
Pankaj has made some truly wonderful songs in the past and he continues to charm us with his subtle yet heart-breaking voice. However, as sad as it is, people don't listent to songs anymore - they just see and if they happen to like what they see, they like what they hear too. That is sad yet an un-deniable truth.
Chandi jaisa rang, Sharab cheez hi aisi, Sharab jisne banayi, Sabko maloom hai mai sharabi nahi, Hum jaise tanha logon ka, Yaadon ka ik jhonka aaya, Deewaron se milkar rona, Deewar udhar se udhar ke, Aap jinke kareeb hote hai - are just a few of his tremendously wonderful songs.
Remixes are an insult to music. Recent Indian music is loosing melody and good lyrics. Gazals and old songs are the best music I'll say. I truly except and appreciate feelings of Mr. Pankaj Udhas. Young generation is mad about the remixes. I dont understand what they like in that. I am in US and 26 yrs old, but still I love gazals and old music. I have good collection of old music and gazals.
Maybe remixes are an insult to music, but as long as there are takers and there are makers, the supply and demand chain is fulfilled. And as long as there are taker you can't really term it insulting. Afterall on what basis do you assume that any particular kind of music is not insulting, i.e. because people appretiate that kind of music. People have the sole right of choosing what kind of music they like, and not be labelled for preferences they assume.
One cannot call Remixes as an insult, its simply change in the mindset of 'SOME' people, there will always be people who like ghazals so one cannot say ghazals will be extinct some day in the future.
Remixes don't have a background as such they are like the new fashion that comes n goes, so one should not compare ghazals and remix songs.
the present trend in the music field seems to be boring .like all the old songs are being remixed .when one hears to these songs and tries to sing the old song in between the song this new songs tune comes and that is a bad thing . and not only that national songs like vandemataram ,jana gana are also remixed like now if you ask a school boy to sing the national anthem he will sing the song jana gana mana from ayutha eluthu . so these music directors should be banned and wh y not give chances for new music directors .
in the age of instant coffee, fast food the younger generation thinks they can achieve instant fame by producing instant music thru remixing old melodies, by stripping and making blatant body movements which have no relevance to the words in the song leaving modesty to winds. But does anyone remember the name of the singer/dancer who did one such just a few months back. At a time when many job avenues are opening up, this also seem to be one such money earning job...let creativity, sensitivity and melody go to dogs.
Pls ask some thoughtful questions... dont keep on asking whether the Ghazals will extinct, die, will never be... no more etc... it is a shame on your part to keep asking negative questions with different words. Every questions were like testing patience. When you ask question, use your individuality also, be informed about in and out of the person, domail etc. It looks like you have asked all the questions like an ameteur journalist.
Respected Pankaj Udhas, Very well said. I fully agree with your views. I am fed of hearing the remix music. I always wondered why such talented people are not objecting to this type of music. The whole value of the song and rythem is totally changed how people could accept this.It is a real insult to the original songs. Definately it is more sothing and pleasing to hear a soft ghazal instead of this noisy remix when you return from hard work and like to relax.
Please will slowly come back to the orginal music and avoid this loudhy music. We have to wait for time to take the turn.
