Keep Taxing the Golden Goose!
by Sumeet Goel on Mar 02, 2007 04:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Time & again our Government has shown that it cannot see it's own people prospering & keep the people fighting everyday for basic necessities. So when the middle class starting making some money they come up with brilliant ideas of DTT, MAT etc. on the Mutual Funds & Industry. So that these hit the bottomlines of our Industry & that hits everybody except the Government coffers.

yeah thats true. Instead of taxing the common man so harsh, let the FM try to recover the money pending to the Income Tax Departments from various VIPs, Politicians and Business mans. If they recover that money we middle class need not pay income tax atleast for a year

Our FM is know for his best tricks played on the salaried class from many years. I wish he should take retirement and allow the new blood instead. God save middleclass/salaried one.

How are citizens rewarded for the tax they pay?
by Mary Pauline Alaghianathan on Mar 02, 2007 04:15 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

This country does not have decent social welfare schemes for its citizens, unlike the western countries where people are taxed and they are taken care of by the State in their old age. In this country, the hard earned money of the middle class is siphoned off (to pay for the misdemeanours of the politicians, their kith and kin and their coterie). The State does not have social welfare schemes for its faithful tax payers. We have to fend for ourselves in our old age. Like the European countries, let the Govt. take tax from every earning citizen and provide the benefits we need in times of unemployment and old age. Then the middle class will not be so incensed about the ever rising tax burden. BTW, the govt has a moral responsibility to demonstrate to us the tax paying citizens how it is ensuring that the non-salaried class (business class and black marketeers) pays its taxes.

In Developed countries the income tax burden on the aam aadmi is > 30%. In return they get all kinds of Govt services. You are paying < 20% and whining.

You get MASSIVE subsidies on your basic neccessities:

Rs 22 subsidy per litre of cooking gas
85 Paise subsidy per litre kerosene
Heavily subsdized college education
Rs 25,000 crore food subsidy

WHO should pay for the subsidies YOU consume? This budget was basically tax neutral for people like you, but you want a FREE LUNCH. Not going to happen.

Excuse me Sir!It is very easy for the government to give all sorts of figures. We all know who is benefitting from the corrupt system we are having.Even by the government's own admission, out of 100 paise spent, only 15 paise actually reach the deserving.Pl do not put words into our mouth.

Where are our Taxes going?
by Sumeet Goel on Mar 02, 2007 04:00 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

1. Driving down the road you are suddenly shoved around by a convey of Cars; Siren glaring & Lights Flashing & being gestured to you rudely to get out of the way for a supposedly VVIP. How does it feel to be paying Taxes for the expenses of this Person who has no regard or respect for you.
2. Oil Companies keep crying over losses on Sales of Fuels. Has anybody ever gone into their Overheads to find out the expenses & calculate their legitimate costs?
3. Our government says that peak Income Tax of 30.9% is low as compared to other Countries. Do you know that the slab at which this rate is applicable is probably the lowest when compared to the slabs when higher tax rates are applicable in those Countries (Keeping in mind the Purchase Power Parity of the Rupee).
4. For every Rupee we earn (as Salary) we end up paying Taxes as :
1. Avg. 24% Income Tax.
2. Avg. 8% Excise on items we normally purchase.
3. Avg. 6% as VAT.
4. Avg. 6% as Service Tax.
5. Avg. 4-6% other Taxes.
So we end up paying more then 50% of what we earn to the government & this holds true for most people.
Are we getting the 50% of effort we put in our work as facilties which reflect that all Taxes are being put to legitimate expenses?

I guess the strength not only should be shown on road but also we all should pledge that we will go for casting votes and make sure that this goverment is rooted out. We normally have the tendency to what was done to us last year. We should never forget that in our life and never allow such useless, f*****g, people to power. I had never voted, but today I have taken the pledge to execute my voting right and throw out such people from power.

What Sumeet is telling 200% correct. Apart from our income tax we pay, we pay taxes for our daily eatables, entertainment, service tax for all bank related transactions, etc.... Keep on going.

How can India's Govt revenues be 20% of National Income, but taxes somehow be 50% of income? Please don't further publicize your ignorance.

In your desire to whine, your calculation ingnored the Rs 22/cylinder subsidy on cooking gas, 85 Paise subsidy on kerosense, the Rs 25,000 crore food subsidy and your heavily subsidized college education.

In your simple-minded world view, these subsidies are your birth right and should be financed by the FM's good looks and winning ways.

I feel that there is a need for en-masse movement to remove this government from power and bring in a stable and sensible government. What has this gov done other than increasing taxes, inflation, bank rates, property prices, gold prices, fuel etc....this is absolutely a worthless government

Where all this tax money goes
by Vanima Rao on Mar 02, 2007 03:55 PM  Permalink

In this country there is no accountability on where this tax money goes. It is definetly going into the pockets of politicians with different different names. I am ready to pay more tax, If someone can show somehow 50% is reaching the common man

Nothing has been done for middle class. Salarised people expected the income tax rates to be low. But we are kept as it is. Mr Chidambaram, we do not accept your budget because school fees, bus ticket, petrol and other items are very expensive etc. Everything is very high and for a common middle class man to run the house is very difficult. At last we are not saving on anything.

Growth should b distributed

Growth should b distributed
So if you are working hard and earning and somebody else is not working and earning then its a job of this govt. to take money from you and give that person as jobless allowance to distribute growth. Also, if u earn more, govt. has to take more money from you and create jobs for those who dont want to compete or they r not competent so that they can also get fruits of your growth.

& what about Taxfree income of Rich agriculturist. No social duty of our super rich Kisan Netas ( Om Parkash Chautala , Devegowda , Ajit Singh & almost all politicians ) ? That's why big industrialists like Mukesh Ambani , Sunit Bharti Mittal are coming in field of corporte farming , so as to save Income tax. Even Film star Amitabh Bachhan is showing himself as a UP farmer ( he got farming land from Mulayam & Amar Singh ) in order to save tax on some of his income. Sholuldnt their land be snatched away & given to landless laboureres . Only then Real Socialism will come. Can our Govt . do that ?? No ..... Never..... they will milk salaried class only , as we continue to tolerate .
Why shouldnt we come on roads & show the govt. our strengths ?

I will add further; it pays to justify that u r poor because govt is trying to help the poor, so to earn what u have to do is just keep cribbing that u r poor and do nothing about it because this govt is hell bent upon the slogan "to all unto his needs" thus u show ur need & not the capacity to work because workers are busy working hard to ppay for ur needs

This is called social justice. The only problem is some people who do not have any ethics take advantage of the system and hide their income. There should be more vigilance and strict actions for black money. But this does not mean that we should stop paying taxes because anyway someone has to take responsibility of the country. And I am proud that I am one of them who take responsibility and pay taxes to run this country honestly.

Thanks
