why cant this labor be properly equipped adn work under international standards?? this is a deplorable image of a thriving nation. Women wearing sandals or barefoot is hardly a sign of progress..how much does a pair of shoes, gloves and overall cost????

Where are you living ??

Not in India ??

Dont you know that the 'liberalisation, globalisation, structural reforms....' hogwash is all about the disproportionate enrichment of just about 2 to 4 % of the Indian population at the expense of the rest and at the expense of state spending on education, health, employment generation, food security and at the expense of immense quantums of public resources and also at great cost to the environment ??

Aren't you aware that 20 years into this 'hyped-to-the-skies' 'development', 78 % of Indians earn less than the equivalent of 1 USD per day ??

Aren't you aware that the quality of life for a very large segment of India's population has nosedived in the last 20 years (what with health, education, housing, food, etc. becoming more and more unaffordable for them) ??

Are you not aware that the richer a few Indians like the Ambanis and others become, the more miserable life becomes for a very large majority of Indians ??

And are you not aware that the labourer in this picture whose appearance you pretend to be surprised at is the true representation of where India actually stands today in terms of human development ??

And lastly, are you aware that between the 1 or 2 % of Indians who have been helped to loot the nation's resources by the policies of globalisation, crony capitalism, etc. and the 78 % of Indians whose lives have become more miserable in the last 20 years, there is that 15 to 20 % of Indians

(the so-called lower middle class) who imagine that they are also 'becoming rich' (when in reality, they are just able to afford exactly the same extent of land, education, health, housing, etc. as they were able to 20 years ago ???

And are you aware that the stuxpid notions of 'development' of this 'lower middle class' section that imagines it is becoming rich is the primary buffer and insulating layer for the ravenous thieves who constitute the 1 to 2 % of Indians like the Ambanis ???
