I think you people have just heard the word SOLAR PANEL, but do not know any thing about them. It is not that easy to install a solar panel. Street lights are either Mercury vapor (giving out light bluish light) laps or are sodium vapor (Orange/Yellowish light) are discharge lams requiring a very high striking and operating current. Striking current could be as high as 30amps and running current about 15 amps. There are no solar panels available yet to provide such current. beside the street lamps are AC and solar panels output is DC which require huge batteries to store the energy. at present the maximum wattage available is 12 volts 120 watts which delivers about 2 to 3 amps. to install a solar panel on a street lamp would require a very large array of of panels which is not practical on road side. Yes wind power is worth considering.
