Some interviewers do not treat candidates as humans
by Visharad Software on Sep 25, 2009 08:23 PM  | Hide replies

The company, where I previously worked, enjoyed conducting written tests and interviews even when there was no requirement.
Whenever any candidate applied for job, he was called for test and interview even when there was no requirement. The candidates were given several written tests - some of which had no relevance to the job applied for. After that there were technical and HR interviews.
Except in a few cases, it was I who was sent to conduct technical interviews. Even if I find the candidate good, he was rejected. When I asked the higher authorities the reason, then the reasons given were:-
1. We do not have any requirement.
2. That person has not worked on this technology. This reason was given when the candidate had not even mentioned that technology in resume. He had applied based on his knowledge and experience in one technology and was rejected because he had not worked on some other. In that case, he should not even have been called for the interview.

Since I was conducting interviews, I used to feel very bad that some really good candidates were rejected. I used to feel bad that those candidates must be feeling let down and some of them might even lose confidence when they were rejected inspite of their answers being correct.
I remember there was a girl who had come for interview from another state. She was called at a time when I was in a long-duration meeting and the HR-manager knew about the meeting.

The First Question
by TreatyRan on Sep 25, 2009 06:19 PM  | Hide replies

Now a days the interviews are all repetitive
The Very First question they ask is
Tell me something about yourself?
The Last answer from them would be
We will get back to you! which means they will never get back.

Discriminate also
by Sanjay Kumar on Sep 25, 2009 03:33 PM  | Hide replies

Most of the interviews in India are sham interviews. And they discriminate also. I am highly qualified with a technical education with distinctions and highly experienced. When I send my cv, everybody from the placement consultant, Company's HR Manager and the interviewer on a telephonic interview praise my qualifications, experience and work. But I am always failed on a physical interview simply when I walk into the interview room. Not that I am not properly dressed or my shoes are dirty. Just because I am a phycally handicapped and walk with a slight limp in one leg. The interviewer asks the very first question: What happened to you and I say my leg was affected with Polio during childhood. His next question is do you have any problems if you come for work. I say no. I travl by taxi on my expenses, and my job is 100% desk job. Even if once in while the job requires me to go to the other plant or office I can take a taxi and go (as this job title will enable me to avail taxi. That's all is asked in my physical interview and then never called again. SHAME INDIA SHAME

If this has happened to you, then it is shameful. At the same time, instead of feeling let down, you should learn your lessons from this and move ahead with renewed vigour to secure a job to prove such people wrong.

I can not change the mindset and attitude of the people. Yes, I keep on trying again and again and faced this situation several hunderd times. All my classmates and even juniors are better employed in MNCs and big companies getting 5-10 times the salary I am getting. Taking advantage of my situation, a small company employed me at a much lesser salary. But still I am grateful that it provided me an employment. But this is a truth that such discrimination occurs in India. Physically handicapped, no matter how much qualified, competent and experienced they are, are still discriminated in India.

It is disheartening to read your comment. I agree with you in India we have very demeaning mindset towards any kind of physical disability. I encourage you to keep looking and networking because I am sure there are good people in India who will hire you for your work without any discrimination. Good luck.
