Solar Eclipse experienced in February 1980 during clear sky Noon was superb and was viewed through out India. Entire india was silent for 1 hour during that time. Additional rest day was given to Golden Jubilee Test match between India & England in Mumbai.

Not as additional rest day! Instead, the rest day was kept after the first day itself, as against the then std practice of the rest day given after 3rd day.

Hey CHATUR do you think from your chUtAR? You must travel abroad for learning. if u follow rss one day u will be behind bars like that slu_t shadvi pragya singh.
Re: TIME

It varies from place to place slightly depending on the sun rise. e.g. in Mysore sun rise at 06.10 Am Also the new Tithi Padyami commences at 07.56 AM This means eclipse period is within this period.

during such event ..gravitaionl pull of earth comes down which has impact on nature and it beings..thats y eating during ecpilse is not recommended

Gravitational pull also decreases when you go from the sea level to a hill station. Does this mean people living in hill stations should starve? I urge you to put your theories in the newspapers, to solve the population problem :)

Eskinol, I recommend you to study "Tao of Physics" by Frijoff Capra for a better understanding of science & religion & the link between.

I've read Capra's work, but what's that got to do with it? Are you saying people living in hills SHOULD starve?

And what would happen if you eat?? Before recommending not to do it.. you need to specify what would happen if we eat...
Also in space there is 0 gravity.. but people eat there...

Actually India is very old country which has gone many changes, with time it is bound to happen that certain propaganda creep into any culture. There is no justification to it. Just don't eat if you think u shud not or otherwise eat it. I remember we do not used to eat any thing during those old days..But certainly no harm!

God was so clever, setting the planets, the moon, the sun and the stars in motion according to Newton's Laws, all adjusted so that on 23rd of July 2009 the moon would happen to come between the earth and the sun in such a way as to make the sun's disk disappear for a few minutes. He must be SO angry!!!!

This is a morning eclipse. The sun is not really at its brightest in the morning.

I am not telling the media is wrong. I am just saying, if you want to make Kasab watch something with a naked eye, you get better results with an afternoon eclipse.

Forget all of this..Decide a date, bring Kasab to a central place say Dadar and let the public loose on him...and show live telecast of this to the world...

Hmm....Well but we dont know anything about him. Media is not actually dong their job properly. Kasab is getting lots of facilities in the Jail. He's just putting on his weight. And look after SADHVI PRADNYA. She was laying on a stretcher for 17 hours when she lost her concitousness. She is being forced to eat beaf, fish. What the hell....We don know anyting...
If during this time (eclipse), if a man would hv been on MOON How will be the view for him to see this eclipse from the moon itself? Can any scientist if any in the discussion board can explain for our better knowledge. Thanks.

Nothing. There is just night and day (of moon) because you are standing on the 'source of the shadow' - which here is moon. But yeah, if you have a telescope and watch from moon , probably you will see the shadow of moon of on earch - like a dark spot traversing across the moon.
Re: Just a guess
by Head Ach on Jul 21, 2009 09:22 PM
nothing cause it will b nothing on the moon cause it is actually the moon which is comming in the light path of the earth so actually is just blocking the sunlight from reaching the earth for some time so it is no use standing on the moon cause nothing will happen on the moon....there is lunar eclipse during which the earth blocks the light to the moon during tat time its worth being on the moon cause wat we can see tomm. from earth can b seen from moon
Re: Just a guess
by Brahmin girl on Jul 21, 2009 07:56 PM
I am not sure, but I am guessing that there might be an "earth eclipse" if a person is on the moon during the "solar eclipse" on the earth. This is because the moon prevents the rays of sun from reaching portions of the earth. So those portions of the earth cannot reflect sun light. This is just a guess.
Re: Just a guess
by Jay on Jul 21, 2009 09:43 PM
Mooon's day is 27.3 days not 24 hrs. It has no smooth transition with dawn and dusk, as in earth since there is no air. Only extremes - day and night. High temp during direct exposure to sunlight (>100 deg C) and extreme cold at night (< -150 deg C)

There would be no effect on the moon of an earth solar eclipse. Since in this case the moon is positioned between the earth and sun, a man on the moon would not be able to see a solar eclipse of the earth. Draw a simple diagram of earth and sun with the moon in between the two and just remember that the sun being the source of illumination, all light ray lines must be straight and come towards the moon and earth so shadow sectors (eclipses) too can be easily seen and understood.
