obviously, it does not affect him. he gets kickbacks from toy companies (in return for reducing import tax), dog food companies (in return for some other provision), some other company (for another provision).

He taxes us multiple times for his pleasure and reduces income tax at a time when dual taxation in the form of sales tax / VAT, etc, indirect taxes should have been reduced.

now, he is going to get commission from big farmers who have taken big loans and are not paying. PC has gladly 'muaafified' their big loans.

Inflation never surged so much before.
by Rahul Nair on Apr 09, 2008 06:28 PM  | Hide replies

It was the congree govt. in 1990's when the inflation soared to 12%, then the NDA regime went it down till 3.1% ( the lowest till date after 1978 emergency time), for three years during NDA regime inflation was between 3-4%. and is our dear finance minister himself not qualified to do so. he is, but why he is not doing it...? as a taxpayer to the country we deserve the answer.

Price rise.
by Siju Mathew on Apr 09, 2008 06:24 PM

Here 40% peoples are producing essential items for the whole Nationa. Rest 60% peoples source of income not depend on agriculture. This 60% get direct benefit from Govt/Public/Private companies. Tell me A central Govt employees DA Howmany times hiked in last year? Then the time the farmers thinking to Suicide.

So My suggestion is that the Govt should ensure the benfit of price rise reached to the Farmers. Otherwise another 5 years after we want to import these essential items from outside India 3 to 4 times higher rate than now.

what about farmers pay hike ?
by earth ling on Apr 09, 2008 05:30 PM  | Hide replies

anyone thought how will farmers get a hike without food prices going up ?
either his yield has to increase or he has to increase his land holdings.
can govt give land ?
can it help improving yield - after 60's green revolution our yield is still average 2 tonnes per hectare

so how ?

small farmer has 2 hectares

1 hectare = 2.47 acre = 330 sq ft by 330 sq ft
2 hectare = approx 467 sq ft by 467 sq ft
1 tonne = 1000 kg
price of rice per kg for farmer rs 10

small farmer pay per 4-5 months = rs 10 * 2 * 1000 = 20,000 = rs 4000-5000 per month.
assuming rice crop take 4-5 months time.

if crop fails you can imagine ...

imaging a small farmer husband-wife tilling a 467 sq-ft by 467 sq-ft land by himself
can they ? tractors ? costly ?

imagine cost of fertilizer, water-pumping, other farm labours, transportation, schooling, etc ...

so what is the solution ?

I agree with your calculations. But inflation and rise in price is not directly related to your equations. Do you think farmer is getting the actual more money because of this price hike. No way. Its mediators who are getting. May be farmer is getting peanuts of this hike. Mediators and actual lobby owners are getting this. Chk out in Reliance fresh or some retail market where in some of the items are sold at lesser price compared to majority actual market. How come? Bcos reliance is directly buying from Farmers... So i think you have the answer who is the culprit.. GOVT is not able to snubb these mediators and corruption...

The solution is tax all the formers except very small having a holding of 5 acers, use this collection for reviving agreculture.and also put a limit on mushrooming of housing by private housing which is eating up the fertile land instead Govt. should make a plane for multistory housing for every income group.Other wise Woh din door nahi jab hamare pass rehne ko makan to hoga khane ko roti nahi.

price rise
by emani v.kondala rao on Apr 09, 2008 05:22 PM  | Hide replies

I consider the reason lies in the lop sided policy of artificial price mechanism of petro products. no doubt world crude price is increasing. But the import duties and excise duty are in the hands of this government only. They calculate these levies as a percentage of cost of material basis instead of on some lump sum basis. That means whenever there is increase in price the govt gets higher duties.
So as the sales tax collected by state govts.
They do not want any ceiling on these taxes / duties. With every rise in price of petro products these state govts gets paid more , more and more. This goes for payment of emplyee salaries or popular schemes of the govts.Instead if they fix a fixed tax by delinking with the price the common man need not suffer as he is today. since transport element is a considerable chunk in pricing of any product. HENCE CONTROL OF PRICES OF PETRO PRODUCTS WILL DEFINITELY YIELD GOOD RESULTS ON PRICE FRONT.

Congress ne diya ek bade haath

Wrong policies adopted during the past four years just to please voters is showing its true colours. The rise in prices of all most all the essential items during the past few months is definetly a source of worry for the common man and the middle class. The wrong policy of including more than 25 essential items in the forward trading is a big big mistake which needs immediate correction. When the food production remains more or less stable and the population increasing now one of popular chief minister has come out to give rice at RS 2 a kg. In this regard he has issued more than 1.8 crore white ration cards to benifit nearly seven crore population of a single state and he says that all these people are below the poverty line. The popuation of the entire state happens to be 8 crores. In this way the state govt agrees that 90 percent are below poverty line. This sort of PDS (public distribution system) soaked in corruption is just going to ruin the economy and the state govt in the coming days.Instead of finding ways and means to increase the production of all the food grains yield per hectare and improving the storage facilities, increase the power generation the govt is just toying with the idea of importing food grains now.The coming days are going to be hell for the middle class and the aam aadmi and the party in power ,thats for sure.
