Job Switch

Every person who is looking for work would first think of working only if the company is able to fulfill one's needs.Accordingly one has some pre definitive career choices. For the question you have asked..I would definitely go for company B..just coz it is meeting up with my choices.Afterall we are working for our career enhancement,we have every rite to grab the offer(B).There is a saying "Jump on Oppurtunities" & I completely agree with it~!

OFFER A or B
by Joel David on Mar 20, 2007 12:11 PM

I also had a similar situation, with offers from two top notch software companies. I chose the second one after okaying my offer with the first one. Did write a mail to the first company explaining my reasons of not joining and thanking them, but never got any response or even a acknowledgement. I thought I made the right choice by not joining such a pathetic company (so called CMM level 5!!!).

Be a professional, doesnt matter you join A OR B, maintain thave the he dignity, standup and accept what you want with confidence, if you want to deny an offer do it with grace, have the courage to say no it will help the complete industry.

Join B, inform A
by nishad ptk on Mar 20, 2007 11:27 AM

There is nothing wrong in joining B.But we should inform A, that you are going to join B, and may be the reasons for that. Its not good to make A wait and later struggle to find a replacement.

As you plan to conceive in a few months the Lecturer post is more suitable; it is less demanding time wise if you are ok to settle for slightly lesser pay.

The IT job will be very time demanding and if you conceive then you may have to take a break.

If I were a married woman planning to conceive in the near future I will take up the Lecturer job.

All the best in your new job.

Hi ,

It is very very good to take a UGC job. I am an Software Engineer, working in india's top company.I and My friends
working in this company minimum 12 hrs and maximum 16 Hrs (some times 24 Hrs too..).There is no time to speak with my family.
When i come to my house all are sleeping, when i wake up every one go to their respective jobs.
Practically speaking, No IT company have good work culture.
Ofcourse a S/w engineer can earn big money by sacrificing his personal life.

If you are statisfied with the package of the UGC which i presueme you would then go for UGC by which you would be out of the rat race of corporate culture and apart form it you could give your family a decent time.

Job Switch
by Raghupathy Sethuraman on Mar 20, 2007 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

This happened to me few days back. I referred one of friend to Company A and he got an offer there. The very next day he got an offer from Company B with more package. He was confused to make a decision. I advised him to think on a long term benefit and decide accordingly. He accepted the offer of Company B and joined them. Meanwhile I was repeatedely telling him to inform the same info to Company A but he was not doing that. Till date he has not done that and ultimately I lost my name and image with Company A since I was maintaining a good relationship with them. Now, they are not going to encourage any more candidate of mine. With this kind of attitude one may hamper other candidate future as well. I would suggest there is no harm in explaining the real picture and your situation so that you maintain a good relationhip for who knows tomorrow you may get even better offer from Company A as well.

That was really a bad situation for a decent person like you. I had also gone under the same situation. Now onwards I do not refer any body to any one but give both of them in form of information with a disclaimer clause. My wordings are like this. "Go to Co.A and meet with Mr. X he may able to solve your problem." Like wise when communication of Mr X comes in for confirmation take the things like this "Though I had referd to you it would be your call to take the matter up." Diplomacy is what which is required.

Look for Job profile and challanges
by Umesh Agarwal on Mar 20, 2007 11:11 AM  | Hide replies

One should look at the job profile offered by both of the companies and should not look at package or company's brand name.

It is experience or exposure that pay in long run, so look at job profile and there is no harm to say to comapny 'A', if company 'B' is providing good job profile, working environment, package and overall growth opportunities in your career graph.

i do agree with u all.
univeristy lecturer or lec. in some eng. college is the best way to enjoy the life.
u will have enough time for ur family, for friends n for ur slf as well.
jobs in private sectors have very hectic schudle.
u have to work for 10-12 hours daily....
u will not get hwne u get old n when u retired frm the job.
no job security in private sector.
they hire when requiremnt is high n fire whn no work over there.
I prefer as the lecturer of some gov University.

I would go for Company B
by karthi keyan on Mar 20, 2007 11:02 AM

I wouldn't find any guilty in declining Company A's offer. Look at the other way what would Company A do when they got a really Suitable and talented candidate who is much more suitable than me. Will they opt me merely for giving an offer? This what the world revolves and I have no hicups is declining Company A's offer.
