life is changing every moment.those who have the capacity to accept and adjust to this change are the ones who should change the job more frequently and acheive targets which they have decided.
its a race against time, take the risk ,forget the comfort zone.
Most of them switching over to other company mainly because of they are getting better monetary benefit.Just for the sake of small benefit they should not change the job quite often unless and untill they could not cope with the employer for varius reason. Most of them feel they do not want to be underemployed or rather they face ego problem with their immediate boss. The best thing is stick to one company for long and try to get involve in all the field wherever your back ground suits.
The article certainly spells out some home truths about changing jobs, in a competitive market that is increasingly ofering many more opportunities for growth and development of performance based careers. The flip side as pointed out is equally true. Chasing a "dream-company" is like looking for the proverbial pot of gold at the end of a metaphorical rainbow ! Often enough , staying and making the company you work with, the company of your dreams is a challenge that should provide you with all the skils you need to be a powerful and successful professional. Finally, as Professor Mani points out in the balanced views he provides to the practical fall out of chasing and securing new and more promising jobs, we all need to explain to ourselves what we are doing, during the time we spend honing our competences in a particular place. After all, as they say, explained waiting time is shorter than unexplained waiting time ! Prof. Mani's article should help several your and even senior professionals do just this .
If you want to be recognised as well as make money, your supervisor / manager / immediate boss should like you and want you to be seen by others. I work for an MNC and my boss discriminates a lot. In the team of about 16 people, 3 or 4 are his favourites and the rest are there as backup. If any new project comes up , first he will ask these 3 or 4 people if they want to do and only when these people are not able to do or don't want to do, he asks the others. He also got L1 visa processed for all these 3 or 4 people recently and I am there in the company for atleast 1 year before these guys joined. When I asked why is he not processing the visa, he says that in the current project what I am in, he cannot process me the visa because of the nature of the project and he will process it when this project gets over by the end of this year. With all these problems, do I want to change my job? NO I don't want to change. Why? Coz this job is paying me for the livelihood I am living now.
It is certainly a right time for a change in job when the job does not deserve you. I am working for an MNC I along with my colleagues tookup the challange...of a new project... it was really terrible for 6-8months ... no body recognised our efforts.. management was huanting us.. a monotonous job..we hardly had met our family members for weeks.. many times I thought of quiting..but I gave it up for manager who was really struggling to make the project stabilize...he and all of our team leaders quit the positions and company before the could do so... but I was still there giving more than 100% on any given day..in anticipation of recognition.....I was shown empty hand.... now does the organisation deserve me and work???
Although this is my first job and i have been here for 3 years with probably the lowest salary in the industry, I Still don't feel the need to move as this job is now my "Comfort Zone." I need someone to assure me that my skills are worth a lot more elsewhere to make the big switch.

Not only Cuttting edge technologies, it is the need for the a welcoming change. Usually we will have a lots of inertia to reinvent ourself, a job change can certainly can give us a lot more than comfort, which is infact a disguise for our layback attitude and the laziness.

Comfort level is important but if you have not been grwowing as per your potential than I believe u should look for a change right now because 3 years is really a long period. You may have problem in finding new job if youstay back and donot grow here.

You are right Mohinder..staying long time in same company could cause a problem when you want switch over. You would limit your self, within the company. ,indeed cannot have exposure to the cutting edge technologies. Staying in same company does't mean being loyal to the company,It May indicates inadequate to adjust to new enivorment.
