How to ask for a salary raise
by Raghava on Oct 08, 2006 12:59 PM

This method is not a general one but looks specific to sales line.

A general and creative one which can be interchangeable will be better

No need to hesitate if your performance speaks
by Sarvesh Saxena on Oct 08, 2006 06:20 AM

Being in a situation to ask for a raise despite outstanding performance in Accounting profession I was offered peanuts as compared to what I deserved. My decision was to refuse it which I did.Not like your article states something or something else. I am a Chief Executive now in 1 year from where I left only because of one reason. If your performance is 100% then you should not settle for a compromise. This cover your butt attitude can never make you excel again to something extra if you are rewarded in a medicore way.
Whether the advice of your article is given by headhunter or corporate guru I believe it depends on an individual if he wants to be diplomatic and settle what ever is given. But to me you should find a company that values an employee like an asset not as a cost. Counter offers acceptance can always back fire if you accept when you are leaving company and suddenly your boss realises your worth because in future your boss will be finding a new replacement for you before you give him second shock of leaving.
Every boss differs in their way of dealing with such issues. So I believe nothing speaks more than your performance. If one does not reward someone else will.

Yaa I completely agree to the strategies/tips given by you for the request for thee pay increment. I personally went thru the same stages during my job.
But at the same time the emplyoyer should also be humane to understand the issues raised by you...being "polite" and concept of "talk it OVER" really works.....in all situations..Trust me....just apply this anywhere in life and i assure u shall get the desired results..

Thanks

salary raise

Well in some organisations it may be possible....but in many large organisations its not in the hands of your boss only for raises..... there are various functions involved, and salary hikes and raises are sometimes decided on very senior management levels, the access to whome you might not have.

The article is too theoretical. In practical it will never happen when you act like this.
