How to ask for a salary raise
by Chaitali on Oct 14, 2006 05:29 PM

I would prefer that there should be a pre determined time, may be twice or once a year when the mid term or annual evaluations are done & the issue of raise in salary can be discussed then.
This will systematise the process and no special appointments will be required.

Ur techniques will work in Pvt companies. But now a days most of the private companies have appraisal method yearly once through which we can get salary hike. SO no need to follw these mails. they will simply delete it

Firstly, if your performance has been good, then you should not hesitate. You are not commiting a crime by asking for a hike. If you have a problem facing the boss directly with a 'raise' issue, write to him in a mail.

I'll tell you my personal story: Two years back, I wanted a raise. The performance for the preceding 2 years was good. But still I could not go up front asking for a raise, so I thought of a good idea. I wrote down all that I wanted in a mail. Saved it as draft. Kept reading it for 3-4 days over and over again. Then finallized what exactly I wanted to say. The mail was a very informal one, with a 'friendly' language, on 'boss' or 'butter-polishing' stuff. Just plain facts. Guess what? I got the incriment letter in the next 3 working days! ;-)

Incase you would like I can give you a sample of that letter!

This is impractical but good to hear
by Anuj on Oct 09, 2006 07:22 PM

This methos is just like GANDHIGIRI of munna bhai. But corporate world will never give you salary hike even though you are ready to take more responsibilities.
I feel ask for salary rise by using imotions in wordings because immediate boss knows about u much. So you can use it's imotion for salary hike.
Also there are other ways like getting money by tours or other relative works.

Dear Sir,
your tips to negotiate a salary hike are commendable, but we see that company hikes the salary more than one could have asked for,in case an employee puts in his/her papers. Is it advisable to continue the job in that case.
Thanking you,
Yours' Sincerely
gaurav Pathania

salary increment
by bhavesh jain on Oct 09, 2006 04:29 PM

hi,
this message looks theoritical to me, practically this is not possible. If a company is dependent on the person(who is asking for increment) and only few people are available in the market gegarding that work then only boss will increase the salary, it depends less on how are you are approaching
