Effective leadership qualities
by Sitaraman S on Nov 23, 2006 05:28 PM

Everyone is a leader. What are all effective leadership qualities? One can acquire skills by perseverance and practice. Involvement in work situation is inborn. A good leader is one who keeps positive attitude; a Karma Yogi and a listener. He must be assertive instead of aggressive and becoming angry, defensive or passive. He is to practice relaxation techniques; know the art of living. He is to be free from fears and tears; learn to accept people and situations as they are; and not being a football of others opinion. He should not brood over the past, which does not exist any more; or anxious of the future which is yet to born. He should go happily with the present which is a gift given by Lord. He should take total responsibility for ones actions and inactions.

The crux is:-

"To be pro-active; to prioritize things; to begin the day with the end in view; to adopt a win-win policy; to unconditionally understand, love and console others; to inculcate team spirit; and to meditate".

The leader is to realize that "love for what is" is Paradise and "love for what is not" is Hell. Believe us; we will back you" is the concept in Servant Leadership Culture.

Perplexed!!

You mean to say, according to the article.. A leader is the one who commits mistakes and accepts and no one else and he is the one who should be accounted responsible, no matter who ever does the mistake....

I think the author is confused about revealling about true leadership. He wrote everything bout accpet, accpet and just accept. Should;nt the true leader be assertive, shouldnt he be firm in his decision or should nt he be not complacent.

What about all these qualities, shoiuld nt he have these things, or is it jsut accpet accept and just accpet no matter whose fault may it be....

BOTTOM LINE---ARTICLE IS NOT THAT GOOD

Bablu is the confused one

Bablu, you are the confused one. This article has focussed on one important aspect of leadership. If you want to read about all the different aspects of leadership that exist, you should purchase a big book, as everything could not be covered in articles of these sizes. I personally think the author has done great justice to the topic at hand. Passing the buck is a common problem in many companies. A lot of leaders, when they fail, they pass the buck to their team members. Do you think a team can succeed in such a scenario? Thus, the author has focussed on a critical aspect of leadership and given a wealth of information in a nutshell. Great job!

True Leader

I was working in ICICI Bank sales and marketing were I use to handle team of 8 members. It is very true to handle a team as a leader and not as a boss. A poor executive always give's excuses, whereas other take and accept responsibilities.A true leader don't tend to hide himself in a crowd.Tone of your voice reflects your attitude and gentleness in tone of voice attract other.
Failure and Success are the parts of life,But the person who accept his failure as he accept his success is a leader.Leader should have the quality to know the mentality and behaviour of the people.
As it is well said: It is not the size of dog in the fight, But it is the size of fight in the dog that counts.

I am happy to take part into this discussion..
what ever,
a leader must guard his/her subordinates in a failure so that the subordinate collegue understands that my captain is always with me and for my benefit..this does not means that the manager will appreciate his fault rather personally the leader should make his collegue clear that fault should not be repetetive..
In success, this success is for the teams' prformance so that every one get mental boost but who will be the key man for the success, should be awarded in any kind...so that every one wanna achieve it in the next time...as a result, company will be benefitted..
A leader, should keep active allthe members so that they think themselves a part of the team and wanna share his thoughts, that may be beneficial for the company..
