Dell laptops provide best bang for the bucks. IMHO buying Dell laptops online would be the cheapest option available (more so if you are using the online coupons) for customers worldwide. The prices mentioned in the article seems quite infleted.

Linux is better than Windows XP
by Karthik K on May 24, 2005 12:41 PM

It is not entirely true that windows is better than linux for the following reasons.
The author mentions user friendliness.. The problem is people tend to associate a computer so much with windows in terms of place where a particular icon is located to the look and feel. What people have to keep in mind is that it initially takes some searching to find you favorite applications in linux, Obviously you cannot expect to see Internet Explorer on a linux machine, so u need to get used to firefox..which is infact more user friendly than IE with tabbed browsing and other features.
Also these days linux supports all the nice features that windows has, like you can plug in your USB device into the port and get to use it without the hazzles of mounting it. (As with previous versions of the kernel ). Stuff like connecting to internet and such things are way easier in linux than windows.
An other major plus about linux is that you dont have to spend extra on antivirus softwares. The architecture of the OS prevents any unauthorized programs from crashing the system, so you can be sure your data is safe.Installing programs like keylogger is also more diffucult in linux.

Views on the Operating System
by Ashutosh Naik on May 24, 2005 11:22 AM

Both the articles say that "Windows XP is the best operating system, and you should not compromise on it". However, I beg to differ. The Linux Operating System in Open Source, and hence very stable, secure and could save you almost 5K on the cover price. It also has more features than the Windows Operating System.
