Don't go for Celeron. It will make your system very slow esp. when you use .Net, Oracle.
Excellent piece. would recommend Acer Aspire series. meets every criteria but cheaper (incl global service support). For specs check aspire 1682WLMi. cost me 50K. enjoy your notebook!
hi! article which have been posted is very good as well as beneficial for the beginers or the ppl who are swithing from desktops to Lappies....bt i guess i am hving some quiries related to purchase of laptops.I want to buy a laptop within two weeks. Firstly,i want to ask if i take a laptop of 80GB Harddisk what will be the difference in price as compared to the 40GB Harddisk. Secodly, Could you please tell about the Bluetooth/Infrared/ DVD/CD writer ...does this all come installed or we got to do it afterwards.
Thirdly, like in my workplace there are desktops PCS which are on the Windows 98 platform and dosen't support pen drive..so could you please advise me how to trasfer the data from laptops (No Floopy Drive) to Desktop pcs.
It will be very kind of you if you could suggest me about this quiries as i am getting much more worried since last 10 days.
Dear Lele, You have put forward a consolidated guidance very nicely about buying lappies these days. Would you mind if I add some more points to yours? Pentium 4 is actually a desktop processor that some are still shipping. Rather, one should go for processors having at least the 'M' tag or centrino if from Intel. I don't find anything bad with AMD mobile processors. It's their bad luck only here in India. May be they don't advertise much or don't give handsome commissions to the channel partners and other associates, either. So, for a budget user AMD one from Acer would be just good enough. And oh yes! how could you forget Mandrake, SuSe or Turbo Linux at least as an OS. Are companies like IBM (earlier), HP, Compaq, HCL, Sun etc fool that they are shipping their notebooks with Linux. I doubt Mr. Lele whether you're paid some commission by Microsoft? Otherwise how do you insist Aam-Janta to pay noneotherthan Rs. 5000 roughly more for os. EVEN A CUSTOMER BUYS WINDOWS BASED lAPPY, what about buying other application software? So, the amount touches lakhs and lakhs of rupees &, others being pirated what is the use of having a lic. software? Get Paid man but dont misguide others!
Your article is very useful but I have a query... when you talk about processor the sales person say it hardly makes any difference.... I was looking for 1.6 processor whereas i got a good deal for ACER Travel Mate 4150 laptop which is 1.5 pro... which is in my budget. And how is the company Acer. what do you say shall i go for it or not.
Awaiting your feeback... Its bit urgent. Thanks Rahul

well when u have decided to go for a laptop, the most imp thing that matters is no its cost as such., go for a model that will provide u with features which will be common in the near future.
a 1.5 and 1.6 pro nor the brand names compaq, tosh, acer etc doesnt make that a difference .
it depends on u r budjet, and the type of farsight u have, and the need of the hour.
