While I agree with the view that print reporters also find a place in TV, one must be a little historical while advising students. As things stand today, we don't have enough seniors who can think visually in India. Good journalists have in any case moved to documentary, given the crass commercialisation of media in general. TV in India is still a new medium and like our films, they are verbose. Save for a few stories, the pictures don't complement the words at all. One has to see the difference between BBC and Times Now or Headlines or even CNN-IBN. Their news values are not very great but the stories are shot and edited meaningfully. So once, we get accustomed to talking with visuals - and with the age of multiskilling catching on - print journalists will make way for true blue TV journalists. Journalism may unite the two media but at the end of the day, the two have different characteristics, their demands are different and they will be performing different roles.
