Jayalalitha cannot consider this as defeat. This is remarkable recovery after just winning just only one assembly segment in the 2004 LokSabha polls she has captured 70 seats. She had to fight a very strong opposition (6 party political rivalry always condemning her, either doing good or bad)a very strong visual media not only Karunanidhi family owned, but also from other media partners owning allegiance to them to name some NDTV, THE HINDU. Thirdly Jayalaitha has to now wait patiently like Karunanidhi did till MGR kicked off for a political resurgence.
Its really a very sad result. A young and dynamic leader who acted with courage in various fronts, forgetting abt the vote bank, has lost. If people have voted for freebies, then we all know what they are going to get in return!!

I agree that "A young and dynamic leader who acted with courage in various fronts, forgetting abt the vote bank, has lost. ..." but i don't agree that 'Sad result' because she has never used such good qualities of a leader for the good cause of the people of Tamil Nady. she has used it only for her friend's benifit.
Unlike the stupidest comment by your member, Joe Felix, stating that TN women got carried away by the stupid color TV announcement made by DMK and therefore defeated Amma\'s rule, Amma got lost by her own follies, one after one, she has committed a lot of mistakes. Sacking government employees, washed away the responsibility for deaths occured when Tsunami relief fund was distributed, trying to shift the popular Queen Mary\'s College, for the sake of shifting her office and so on. TN women and men are not idiots to get carrried awy the color TV announcement. If that is so, then why should Jaya lost after announcing free PCs, free gold for the \'thali\', waiving co-op loans etc., Let people like Joe Felix restrain themselves before making these stupid remarks.

it is not the matter of by how much amma has lost by...we are happy to know taht she has lost and is not going to run the gvt for the next 5 years. God saved the nation.
It is Vijaykanth who splitted Jaya's votes. Jaya should have had some alliance with him. He has taken overall 8.5% votes.
Here are the % wise distribution of Votes in TN:- DMK + -> 45% AIADMK + ->40% DDMK(Vijaykanth)-> 8.5% Others-> 6.5%
Adding 8.5% to AIADMK's total..Jaya would have won. Whereever AIADMK has lost they have lost by narrow margin only.So it is Vijaykanth the bullet which hit the bulls eye.
. I agree with you the reasons for the drubbing of Jaya in the polls one another reason was,
the State did not develop much during her reign although there was signs of development in the later part of her regime. Although she did very well in the Tsunami/flood relief works and easing the water problem the promises made by her in the last few days of campign to match the promises announced by her rival party did not got well the people. People that she may not fulfill the promises made in the later part of the campign and these promises were made only give a fitting reply to DMK.
Anyway Jaya is not old for Politics and she will bounce back and one day again she will become CM again.
Whatever the \" Iron lady\" did during her regime was for the betterment of Tamil Nadu if one takes an impartial view of what had happened.
AP has has 50% more people than TN, but the govt.staff is just a fraction of TN Govt. staff.
Whatver the \"corrective action\" she had subsequently done is not for the good of the land but for \'vote catching\'. It is not question of right or wrong thing that matters in the election.
All those who have \'respect\' for Kanchipuram seer do not believe the \'story\' that is in the air. Another mess is reservation policy in professional courses
Many literates preferred to vote for \'Paritran\' or \'vijayakant\'
