Rational Thinking

The ideas and golden dreams are truely being realistic and for a person like myself who is borin this city, I feel that the young generation should play a more active role in the upbringing of Kolkata and Greater Kolkata rather than the old Communists who are in reforms but are not aware that todays generation NEXT is much more advanced and matured when you talk of development. Go to any mall, you will find 90% of the crowd in this teens and 30s.

Software is an excuse as today this is a hype in INDIA.

In my eyes New Bengal

For the last three years I was in Delhi since I was transferred there, now again I am back to my hometown. Initially though I was quite happy and excited for returning HOME, however I was equally depressed because in Delhi for 3 years lot of my habits have changed, fast and good roads with flyovers, work culture, shopping malls, multiplex etc etc. Now I must say that Kolkata have changed a lot in these three years and I was surprised. Few days back I drove from Shibpur to Salt Lake and reached in 25 mins !!!!! in my wildest dreams never thaught before, tram tracks are fast being changed to concrete and the work progress is preety satisfactory. NEW TOWN >> the first day I drove from E.M Bypass to Haldiram (VIP Road ) I uttered only one thing " Am I dreaming ? am I still in Delhi and entered Gurgaon ?? I cannot say much about rest of Bengal but I have seen Highways have changed and are now at par with other states (maybe NH project). Lot of industrialists are now changing mind for investing in Bengal.Initiative is required for Health Dept.
Mr Buddhadev Bhattacharyya well done and keep it up, if any day your party throws you off, we the general public is there to stand beside you.

Hi,
Well written. I support your views but Yes, we people are really taken aback by the information given when you are out of Bengal. Your experience near Haldirams would be around S'Lake and Rajarhat in about 10 years time where the elite Bengals will prefer an apartment in Rajarhat that in Ballygunge.

A NEW BENGAL
by PRATAP SINGH on Apr 29, 2006 10:56 AM

Bengal can only change with a radical shift in state of mind,CHOLBE NAA and HOBE naa is a part of their mindsets for generations and this is not restricted to the lower classes but the middle and upper classes as well ,with the result that the entire community looks at development and change with disdain and mistrust and look back at the past as a glorious era of Bengal.

Before acquiring the land from the local people (what ever may be the purpose) one should see the rehabilitation of the people concerned. otherwise these land holders are going to be become mere labourers. this is what happening in entire India which will affect the economy and stability of the country.

Once again, the 'peoples govt' has shown the people the utter contempt in which they are held, and like in Communist China, they are being forcibly evicted from thier land without due process, leaving them seeing red, all in the name of 'development'. So much for the peoples proletariat; long live the Politburo, esconsed in luxury and showered with unlimited baksheesh from "capitalist imperialists'.

incorrect information

The author of the article seems to be blissfully ignorant of bridge technologies. How else can you explain his/her comments claiming that vidyasagar setu is built along the lines of the golden gate bridge.

These are two fundamentally different cable bridge designs - vidyasagar setu is a "cable stayed" bridge whereas GG bridge is a "cable suspension" bridge.
