Dhoni is good rider of horses (Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, and all), but he has failed as a horse himself, though there were initial heroics. I think it is time we said we need horses, not horse riders to win the games. Dhoni had successfully piggbacked on the great players, but once they are gone, his real talent is showing, which is not very great.

Dhoni should honourable leave cricket . He has done enough for the country and desrve a prestigeous and honourable deaprture from the game.
I wonder how long one can carry his past heroics and forget the present. Why it is that we are forced to step out and why the Board/Selectors are so afraid and have to clarify so much to oust a non-performing player like Dhoni.
Performance matters not his old records stop supporting him,if does so simply you were spoiling the carreers of young talents like Priyhvi,Pant,Parthiv,Rahul and so many guys...... Name and Fame will not wins the matches.....
I am big admirer of Dhoni but I think it his batting powers are waning. Knowing his nature, he will step down by himself but he wants to have last hurrah and bow down after world cup in a dignified way and he deserves this. Dhoni as a wicket keeper and an on-field adviser can walk into any team, batting is just a bonus as he almost takes 3-4 every match as a wicketkeeper and saves some 20-25 runs. Leave him alone, let him concentrate on world cup.

Not acceptable, do you want to see a situation that India lost a world cup 2019 Final either semifinal, by 7 Run, & dhoni score only 20 Runs by taking 35 Deliveries, could other wicket keeper like Dinesh Karthik could make a difference, this situation will arrive if dhoni is retained in Indian team by politics.

Agreed 100%-- still he has lot to contribute in one day format, but batting does matters at one point.. his decline in form is more of a concern over his age or fitness..
