AFTER GAVASKAR AND SACHIN ERAS IS IT VIRAT OR KL RAHUL ERA?
by damodaran mohan on Sep 21, 2016 05:21 PM

Indian cricket can certainly feel proud at the important milestone moment of 500th Tests given it is a formidable cricketing power in the world at a time the other Indian sports manages just a silver and a bronze in Olympics! During my schooldays in the 50-60s despite some big names India\'s position in world cricket were more like current Zim. side with the English and the Aussies sending their second Xi if not wanting to send mom-in-laws ! West Indies of course were the undisputed kings of world cricket and ironically India\'s turning point came from their land with a sensational coming of one Sunil Gavaskar taking on the mighty WI pacers scoring over 700 runs in the series! It was start of Gavaskar era really and with Kapil\'s devils \'83 WC win in fact marked the arrival of India as a competitive cricketing nation after 50 yrs of its history with the spin quartet of Bedi, Prasanna, Venkat and Chandra too making their mark around the world.Post 80-90 India had become a natural destination of producer of young budding cricketers like Sachin, Saurav,Sehwag,Laxman, Dravid,Kumble,Bhajji ,Dhoni…. and then finally the arrival of the biggest Indian brand—IPL! Legacy-wise after Gavaskar era it had to be Sachin era who stood apart from the rest. I wonder if after Gavaskar and Sachin eras who inherits next era -- Virat Kohli or a KL Rahul suddenly dropped from the blue ?

Hello
All of us jump the gun as far as the INDIAN TEAM is concerned We build up a hype on them which just collapses when they play overseas. As West Indies win is concerned it was a pure second rate string and what is the point glowing over these wins.We come home and again arrange easy tours just to take No-1 position. The whole thing is self defeating

ROHIT SHARMA THE WAYNE ROONEY OF TEAM INDIA ?
by damodaran mohan on Sep 21, 2016 05:15 PM

(contd.)Now coming to Green Park, Kanpur it is the venue of earliest pleasant memories of Radio commentary days of spinner Jasu Patel running through a mighty Aussies side! Will the spin dominate yet again? Spinning or sporting or jamtha like ‘sporting’ ? Catch is the Kiwis too have a formidable spinning options which we discovered to out dismay in the WC ! Kiwis were perennial ‘underdogs’ till Mccllum took over as Captain and looks the side is back to old status under the inexperienced new captain. To that extent India could be having an edge provided the m.o delivers which it is yet to !Pujara and Murali Vijay need to be more positive and not get bogged down looking like playing to retain the place in the side only to play a rash shot suddenly losing the patience. Rohit? Wayne Rooney of team India? Finally, one advice for Amit Mishra---have patience.

To me KL Rahul looking more focused and hungry for runs is more akin to G and S with VK distracted o
