I wonder, if we really progressing as a nation where there is unemployed youth in abundance, where the issues like beurocracy, corruption and initimidation to women every corner, and where >20-30 % population including kids strive to make two time meals.
Media can better focus on those issues. Its of remote importance how bolloywood stars looked or performed on a USELESS and WASTEFUL opening ceremony of IPL. This is mockery of a nation and to its people, who are kept in euphoria of glamour to take them away from a reality, that bites but true.
If its cricket, it makes sense, but for an opening ceremony if more than 1 lack people watching in stadia, we are surely not the most progressive nation as on today. Few hundred and thousands success story will not make us a progressive nation.
Media can surely do better than complaining for not able to cover IPL opening cenremony. Its Just a Waste of Time.

Kiran, why dont you see it like this. If 120,000 people on an average paid Rs. 1000, it makes 12 crore, apart from the payment to the Bollywood performers where did the money go - it would have gone to people who set up the lights and other facilities, a number of people who provided food at the venue to the performers and other staff, security men who were deployed and hundreds of people who were employed, probably on contract from parking lots to sweepers. Basically, the money spent, or a substantial part actually goes to keep the wheels of the economy running and that is how an economy functions where money flows from the haves to the have-nots. Yes the likes of Shah Rukh Khan make a fat purse, but a good part trickles down. Actually in the economic environment we are in, consumption should pick up and that will what move the economy. The problem we have is that we feel consumption is a sin but that is not so. Similarly there was a hue and cry recently when a minister in Maharashtra spent a fortune on a wedding. Actually it is a great way to push the local economy. It is the caterers, transporters, furniture hirers, sweepers are the ones who are going to earn and that is good instead of the politician hoarding the money

Where will the money go? It has to be given to people who have worked there. They cant be fooled. Scams are only where the government is involved. Here they will have to pay the agencies and the money will trickle down

Media is just complaining because it did not get vantage points to take photos of Bollywood bimbettes; free food and drinks; access to toilet facilities and a chance to irritate S R K by asking him annoying questions about the time he spends with "favorite heroines" (when they know he only has the hots for K Joe the Moe)!
