Compare dhoni batting with other Wicket Keeper
by Bhavesh on Sep 05, 2012 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

Its unfair to compare Dhoni batting with Ganguly because ganguly was in team for his batting and dhoni is there for wicket keeping. We should compare his batting with wicket keeper like Kirmani, Mongia and other previous keepers.

Ganguly was initially good but he choked as a batsman under pressure of captaincy.

Ganguly made the team the world's best team he supported all the players in there bad phase he always supported harbhajan, sehwag, kumble, zahir khan etc in their bad phases. Dhoni is lucky when he became the captain he have a very strong team with him this is the difference between dhoni and ganguly you are right there is no comparison in dhoni and ganguly as gaguly is always best

Greatest captain
by LettertoEditor on Sep 05, 2012 02:47 PM  | Hide replies

In terms of gentleman captain and player it is only Pataudi who can match in India. Ganguly was good captain because of the team mates but brash in his approach and Dhoni is good only because of his teammates and is like a typical indian manager who cannot take everyone along. He has chamchaa's, neutrals and those who dare to oppose his divide and rule policies. So they both cannot be considered great captains. Like that we can call douglas jardine great although he made his bowler bowl underarm to stop Don bradman. I think Steve Waugh was good captain given the aggressive nature of australians and the west indian captains were also exemplary in their conduct and as captains(till late 80s and early 90s).

Making a captain wait for toss or taking one's shirt off doesnt make somebodya great captain.. these were not the reason why we won the macthes.. its becos of a few individual performances..

Completely agree. In India we like larger than life characters.Ganguly made himself one. No doubt he was good as a captain but he thought too much about himself which ultimately fell to hiws downfall. Imagine he was not even picked in the KKR team.

dear m0r0n, were u not fed properly to even realise that both the WCs were just flukes??? specially the 2011 wc - held in India, was it too tough a task? ganguly is of a separate class altogether, which rustics like u and dhoni won't even realise!

India couldn't defend 83 WC at home, proving it was a fluke. And 96 WC winner was another subcontinent team. :)

Similarly 2007 T20WC was a fluke (proven by next performances) and in 2015 at Australia world will again prove that 2011 WC win by India was also a fluke. :D

Stop analyzing so much guys. Take a chill pill. Indian Cricket team never was is and will be a consistent performing side. Just enjoy the sports.

Under Ganguly's captaincy these players were still relevantly in their 'prime'... years on they are old f*rts who refuse to hang up their bats :)

This shows key players like dravid, sachin, sehwag, laxman are at thier prime under ganguly...

Ganguly is lucky to have then at prime..

While under dhoni, its the aging team, where all the key player are in decline or near retirement...

Inspite of it dhoni has much better record than ganguly in tests and won 2 world cups (oneday, 20-20)...

So who better catpain?

dravids and laxmans were in their prime and young during ganguly as a captain.during dhoni they rite ly retired gave young guns the chance. Here we r talking of individual captaincy and not the players playing in team.
