Better to quit when people ask " WHY " rather than &quo
by Edison John on Oct 29, 2012 04:54 PM  | Hide replies

When Ajit Wadekar quit his Indian team Captiancy and decided to end his cricketing career sometime in 1977 or 1978, Press persons eagerly asked him " What made you decide to quit cricket ?? " Ajit Wadekar replied " It is better to quit when people ask " WHY " rather than " WHY NOT " Maybe, there's a moral in Ajit Wadekar's words for many people !!!

Read " sometime in 1977 or 1978 " as " sometime in 1971 or 1972 "

Wadekar quit Test Cricket after leading the Indian team to one of its most disastrous overseas tours. He did not even wait to come back to India. He knew he was going to be kicked out anyway.

The only guy Indian cricketer who ever quit when he was ahead was Sunil Gavaskar.

Commentary
by arup das on Oct 29, 2012 04:07 PM  | Hide replies

I have been listening to commentary of various ex players since a long time. But except for Gavaskar, Boycott,Nasir Hussain. Ramiz Raja, Manjrekar and a very few most of them hardly explains anything technical. If any body listens to Shastri or Sidhu for a long time one will realize that the hardly talks any thing technical and mostly talks about things which every one knows. Saurav on the the other hand explains the game with lot of technical inputs and analysis which is what is required of a good commentator- after all we don't want commentators who are more interested in providing comedy in the name of commentary.
So Saurav - Keep going and treat you jealous critics with the contempt they deserve.

well, Mr.Braggo:

You are not even famous as a piece of sand that Ganguly has stepped on.

But yes, there is freedom of speech (if not anything else) in this country, so keep bragging.
