Whew!!!Too Early Mr. Ashwin!!!
by xvcxvxvv vxvxvxvx on Nov 09, 2011 01:35 AM  | Hide replies

Play at least 50 test matches. Bag 200 odd wickets and then brag. Indian wickets which turn like tops and opposition as poor as West Indies are probably not the best place for your bragging rights.

Prove yourself in Australia and then talk BIG!!! I wouldn't be surprised if he goes into the shadows in a year or two as many spinners have and he's not even as half talented as Laxman Sivaramakrishnan.

He isnt actually bragging here . If you see all his comments , what hes trying to say is that he feels blessed to play with Sachin and Dravid . He just used the wrong word .
Personally , I feel he is talented enough to have a long career . Laxman Sivaramakrishnan spoiled his own career through drugs , so his talent isnt much of a guide .

Sunil,

Thanks for your comment. Well, then he should try and correct his english a bit and not try and pick up terms on the fly and use them in the woring places.

However, with Siva, he did destroy his career but as far as talent goes, he was way way talented than this guy.

That's what I am trying to re-iterate that let him have a few more tests under his belt and we can all seriously start considering him as a player of quality.

For now, its a waiting game and I won't mind if he proves me or somebody else wrong.

Siva was a real talent wasted. It is too early to comment about Ashwin. It is not his fault-these days media creates an unnecessary hype. The future can only tell whether Ashwin can consistently perform or not.

Laxman had a general weak ness of bowling full tossess, so when it gets a but bad, it all goes to drains. Drugs are another matter again, but there has been a weakness in his bowling. Ashwin is in the style of Kumble, I think he has better control and variety than Laxman,

Ashwin and Ojha save the Test
by Nikhil Shah on Nov 08, 2011 11:58 PM

With 16 wickets amongst the 2 spinners, the WI could not set India a target above 300 . The bigger worry was Umesh Yadav, who could have gone wicketless in the entire match but managed to get a couple of wickets. Otherwise
he could have jeopardize his selection in the second Test.

Much to our relief Yadav may survive and carry his momentum into the next Test. The pair of Ishant and Yadav was critical for the Oz tour and with Zaheer's come back hopefully he will have Yadav, Ishant and Varun to support him.

India has closed the pace gap, and Yadav's fastest was 90.7 mph compared to Edward's 91.4 in the first innings. With Varun, Ishant and Yadav we will have 3 bowlers who can peak at 91mph in Australia for the first time.

Ashwin's Batting - Siva's commentary
by Venkatesan HARIHARAN on Nov 08, 2011 11:41 PM

Interestingly Sivaramakrishnan in his commentary mentioned it to Sunil Gavaskar that he rejected Ashwin in the under 19 selections as he presented himself as a opening batsman who could also bowl off spinners. He would not found a place in test team if Ashwin concentrated on batting.

GOOD BOWLER
by Vasant Ware on Nov 08, 2011 11:24 PM

ASHWIN IS UNDOUBTEDLY GOOD BOWLER BUT NEEDS TO IMPROVE BATTING COZ HARBHAJAN IS REALLY A BETTER BATSMAN THAN ASHWIN....
AND IT JUST MATTER OF TIME TO HIM TO REGAIN HIS FORM AND MAKE INROAD IN TEAM....
HARBHAJAN IS ONLY BOWLER ON WEST INDIES TOUR WHO TROUBLES CHANDERPAUL AND ALMOST GOT HIM OUT 4-5 TIMES BY PRODUCING EDGES OUT OF WHICH 2 PUT DOWN BY WORLDS BEST SLIP CATCHER DRAVID....
ASHWIN IS GOING TO TEST ON AUSTRALIAN PITCHES, IF HE TAKES WICKET THERE THEN HE IS DEFINITELY GET LONG CAREER....
BEST LUCK TO ASHWIN.... KEEP IT UP....

by Happy Friday on Nov 08, 2011 11:12 PM

Lets hope we win this match. We have seen this spin domination in home when Kumble was playing (atleat complete 90's) after so many years we see india is again getting the momentum with Spin.

one should not be such over confident to judge own caliber.let others to do so.there are many examples in Indian cricket that a person is a star for one match and then disappear. To have comparison with sachin and dravid one shold work hard and should not induldge in such prematuar statement

In Ashwin's defence , I think he meant "blessed " . The tone of his other comments suggest a more down to earth character , so it is unlikely that he meant this in an arrogant way .

Kindly practice some more english Fadnis sir !

I am gifted here is like saying I am honoured or I am blessed.

I am honoured does not mean I am receiving honour,it means its a great honour to play along side Sachin.

So,it is a kind of indirect speech.

Don't be too hard on him . If we go by actual grammar , he is right . "Gifted "is not used in the same way as "honoured " or "blessed " , at least not commonly used that way .

Yes, he didn't choose right kind of words (gifted enough).

When he says:
"I am gifted enough to play alongside the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid"

He is kind of saying that he is good enough to play alongside Dravid and Tendulkar.

Selectors
by Ramdas Nayak on Nov 08, 2011 10:13 PM  | Hide replies

just kicked one 'permanent' bowler out see what was the result? Team India had two talented spinners who almost brought their team on the threshold of victory in spite of failure of batsmen. No Tendulkar, No Sehwag, No Dravid and No Laxman. See how our youngsters humbled the formidable England by routing them 5-0. If we still do not wake up and bring young talents to fore Team India will share bottom place with teams like Kenya and Zimbabwe in near future.

why
by sman la on Nov 08, 2011 10:10 PM  | Hide replies

why Tendulakr didnt take the available single run onn th 3rd ball of tthe last over.. just curius> he plainly refused to take the run. Is it we didnt want to face the last 3 balls? Why he is letting Dravid face the over..? IS he being little little selfish? I am a big fan of him.. just no body talks about it? Another question is.. Did Dravid a get a favor from Third umpire, because of the host country?

To get favor from third upmire from a host country is regular and is going through decades if not centuries Sman La. Recently Rahul Dravid was victim in England 3 times getting no favour from 3rd upmire (becoz the upmire used to be English, and we were playing in England). So while asking questions make sure you are asking a good question.

Second thing about tendulkar not taking strike, can be that he knows that in case if he gets out the opposite team gets a mental edge about the remaining batting line up and he come hard to other indian batsmen. Now a days no one depends on tendulkar, so even if he gets out, India can still win. But as you seen in 1st innnings when tendulkar got out, the remaning 5 batsmen including dhoni, Laxman, yuyraj and tail did not contribute at all.

MOST OF THE TIME TAKING A RUN ON MISFIELD WILL BE SUICIDAL AND TENDULAKAR KNOWS WELL ABOUT IT....THAT'S WHY HE DIDN'T SHOWN INTEREST IN THAT SINGLE RUN OVER MISFIELD....

Re: why
by Alok Ray on Nov 08, 2011 10:46 PM
the reason why Sachin did not take the single is quite simple and obvious... a fielder was rushing towards the ball and there was absolutely no need for a single and the primary objective of that over was to get home unbeaten.

Dravid got the favor as there was no clear footage available for the 3rd umpire and the batsman got that always.

tendya test batting average
by cc man on Nov 08, 2011 09:55 PM  | Hide replies

unless tendya retires with a test batting average difference lot more than sangakkara, kallis etc, he wont be regarded as greatest like bradman but just like another great compared to sangakkara, kallis etc

Bradman is still immortal because his test average difference compared to his generation and present generation is way ahead. so tendya should see he reaches test average of atleast 60.

Brother, he has accumulated 15000 test runs at an average of 55 odd.Do u even realise how much of an effort it would require to get his average to 60.Even a bradmanesque effort would do no good...forget numbers...pray he plays meaningful innings to drive india home...

Batting average is just one statistic . A batsman's greatness does not depend on just one number . Bradman's average is eye catching but he was considered greatest in his times because of his huge scores and the consistency with which he scored them . The same applies to Tendulkar . In a career oflonger than 20 years , he has had only two periods when he struggled to get big scores . He came out of both periods within a few months and had prolific runs immediately afterwards . Even now , he has only failed in England and in the first innings here . I won't bet against him getting big scores in this series and in Australia .

Yes, really Aswin is fortunate to play with veterns. When Sachin achieved 15,000 runs the good gesture showed by Rahul Dravid is comendable. It really shows still Cricket is gentlemans play.ProfRanga

Cricket is a sports and a kind of entertainment. so long as the veterans have the ability to perform and entertain the should carry on. Besides the no 6 position is still on offer since Ganguly , let the newcomers come and grab the spot

go back and rewind ur life and candidly count the unforgettable moment tendulkar has given to you and many other cricket and sports lovers around the world and more importantly you can see a role model in terms of work ethics to live by and if ossible emulate him in all aspects....otherwise India is devoid of real super heroes..
