Appeal of cricket
by French Cuisine on Feb 26, 2011 12:12 AM

This will sound pessimistic - but I can see only 6 teams to look for in this WC. Looking at the world cup performances, some of the giants of the game have taken tremendous steps backward. West Indies have fallen from a dominant position to practical oblivion where even Bangladesh can beat them, and NewZealand is also a largely dying entity. These two teams can be safely categorized along with the other minnows and are certified whopping boys for the bigger teams. It is clear that the nextGen cricketers in this country are not there most likely due to lack of enthusiasm for the game. Will these 2 countries ever play like past? Some smaller teams like Netherlands and Ireland are trying to come up, but only 6 countries can be said to be genuine cricketing nations - 3 Asians, England, Aus and SA. So outside the subcontinent what happens to cricket? Cricket does not appeal to people outside this part of the world. Maybe even Aus will play like today's NZ after 20 years if enough new talents don't emerge and India will be the only cricket team left to watch.

Gavaskar highly prejudiced
by AdinGoyyale on Feb 25, 2011 11:36 PM  | Hide replies

When Shakib brought in Shafiul or his second spell, Gavaskar commented that it was a wrong decision. He was circastic in his remarks. Shafiul however removed 2 Irish batsmen to pave the way for victory. Gavaskar should mind his words. He should nt think that everyone is like Sreesanth or Nehra

These are not illiterates. These are your countrymen, who are showing their true colours. They are just shameless animals, arrogant and racists. You take out cricket and pretty much in every other sport India is the same story - we are absolute minnows and we compete in those events just to be whopping boys for others. A classic example was the recent football Asia cup. There are just too many examples like this , but similar things can be said about us too. So if say India goes and plays football in an international event will we not cheer for our country? Is it improper to hope for a better future for this sport in India? People making these nonsense comments are poisoned by hatred, regionalism and are just too enamoured of themselves because India plays good cricket or their region is good at something.

Why couldn't ICC use this pitch in the match against india..y are they fixing matches for the flat pitch hitters in that team.

I think all these matches are fixed by the indian brigade now runing the icc.But God is there he will cut short your indian team and media's monkey antics.:)

India will win the World Cup
by shahzibgul2000@rediffmail.com on Feb 25, 2011 10:34 PM  | Hide replies

India is firm favorite winning this world cup. Pakistan has chance of being in the last four provided they avoid facing Indians in Quarter Final. If this Indian team could not win WC this time around, with such a explosive batting line up, then they should forget about winning it for next 20 years. I just love to watch Shewag destroying blowers with his elegant stroke-play !
