The writer missed out the 1981 test series in Australia....SAndeep Patil thrashing Pascoe/Lillee for a 170 odd runs in a day, Gavaskar's infamous walkout and Ghavri bowling Greg Chappell behind his legs.

Your Points regarding JRD and Homi Bhabha doesn't connect with Cricketers. Homi introduced Nuclear energy, which is lapped by governments and enabled to become a nuclear state. It also helped India to produce power. In case of JRD, Tata has developed India through Industries. My Point, What did cricketers had contributed to the development of India? Also Cricket is not a worldwide recognised sport unlike tennis or football or athletics. So even if they made records, it won't be recognised by people from every part of world.

every nation has its passion in some sport like Brazil has foot ball america baseball and so on, and by the way the freedom was already finalised by the start of 1945 only the poltical negotionas were on the way and yes there were problems so they are now when Indian team is in austrailia, atheleats are preparing for 2012 olympics while Annjai is preparing for fast, by the way what will u remember 2011 for cricket world cup bcoz there is no other good news from political side chidu kapil stealing lacks of coreres high inflation thanks to sharad are these moments you will want to remember at least cricketers are giving some joy to the common people
