Indian Air Force officers risk their lives for the country. It is a wonder how such honors can be bestowed on people who don't have anything to do with the country's defense. Hasn't Sachin received adequate recognition for his accomplishments? Many deserving servicemen who have worked hard all their life to defend the country may never reach beyond the rank of Wing Commander.

I must admit... I did find it odd as well... mixing Military and Sports doesn't fit in my view :-)

He is being confered this title so he becomes an inspiration to the future generation to join IAF. What is there to miss here. I think it is a great way. I hope IAF comes out with many advertisements with Sachin in it requesting our countries future generations to consider officer posts in IAF.

I think he is already an inspiration to the future generation... to play cricket though probably not to join the forces!

It's fine giving them the respect ... they earn that... it's just odd. You would never see the British Army doing the same to any English players... although Ravi Bopara probably deserves it :-)

I do it for a laugh because I know it will cause a volcanic eruption :-) He is a good boy though Bopara... his idol is Sachin by the way.
