mohd. ameer has done well in bowlers friendly conditions. Unfortunately , we may know how he would bowled on flat pitches.

In England, even our Indian bowlers have/had been outstanding.

Real test of a bowler begins after he has been exposed to all great batsmen. Once people start reading the bowler well, he is no more a threat unless the bowlers keep developing new tricks. Recent Example: Ishant Sharma, Mendis

sachin or ponting?
by Strict Officer on Sep 04, 2010 03:10 PM  | Hide replies

the debate continues.................
well i say Ponting (at the moment)- bcoz Ponting has won 3 WC's,1 CT under his captaincy with his individual performance where as Sachin is yet to achieve that.
If he accomplishes this task in 2011 WC(he shd i guess)- then Sachin is Greatest.

That's a strange statement... Sachin is not Captain of India therefore ... he cannot achieve what Ponting has... Dhoni can. If you compare Ponting to Sachin... as batsmen... Sachin is the best without a doubt.

both are good performers....no differences........match winners and competitive cricketrs.....ponting is ahead in terms of his "fielding skills" worlds best fielder and catcher....sachin lost his legspin...due to elbow injury cant bowl effectively.....even dravid is not far behind....world class no.3 batsman...world class "slip catcher"....

Right, Then It's a team game and The TEAM is created by Steve Waugh and Ponting can't create such a team so No credit for his captaincy and Aussie team was No.1 when he take over and his team is in No.4 and soon it will reach No.5 for the first time shows how good captain he is.

in the favourable conditions Indian bowlers can be fatal.Remember how Zaheer destroyed England in 2007 and in recent tri series we thrashed NZ on 118 only.

Vindya ji, I'm so impressed :-) You really know your cricket! I attended one of the ODIs in 2007 when India won by 9 runs... one of the best matches I've seen! Sachin scored 99 and Dravid 92 not out!

Following players at their peaks have been compared with one and only one..Sachin Tendulkar( That is what makes him the best ever after Sir Don Bradman)

1. Mark Waugh (Aus)
2. Vaughan (ENG)
3. Lara (WI)
4. Ponting (Aus)
5. Pak cricketer.. I forgot his name (fat guy)
7. Dravid (IND)
8. Piterson (ENG)
10. Sehwag (IND)

All these players faded away, but Sachin is still SHINING like SUN.

add to the list if you know any other names.

You missed S Anwar, S Ganguly, Jeyasuriya, H Gibbs

The Main Competitors were B Lara in Test and S Anwar in ODI's but no other came close to Sachin and Ricky Ponting is always one step behind and never became a competitor like Lara or Anwar

That's an old story... covered extensively... Sachin obviously.

Ponting would probably qualify as the greatest captain in cricket... although Dhoni is probably close...

PART 1 - agree with u completely

Part 2 - DISAGREE COMPLETELY. Dhoni isnt a great captain and nowhere close to the biggies like Ponting, waugh, Ganguly etc.
Do we see any hunger to win, captain cool as he is called by stu=pid media is never seen disturbed with the result of a match.... its one thing to remain cool and its other to remain naive and inactive....

probably his 160 odd crore contract and IPL money is responsible for this.

ponting is great...one thing u all fools forget is cricket is only abt batting....
wat abt fielding, close in catching, bowling...???
have u ever thought abt these things...?
overall competency should be the criteria for comparing different player and not only "batting"..
ponting can win a match with his "brilliant" fielding and close in catching abilities....can hit wicket all the times and create run outs......sachin isnt
sachin "lost" his leg spin due to elbow injury and cant bowl effectively.....
both are brillient ataacking batsmen against all kind of attack...there is no difference in it....
ponting is still a good fielder and worlds best....

We are talking about careers of these great players, history books after their retirement will not say if they bowled well in the last stage of their career.
From where would ponting bring 150 odd ODI wickets by sachin and his maiden 49th / 50th over. Sachin has completed 20 years in Int. cricket and has always brought value to the team according to his role....
and toddler like u (sunil K) probably wasnt even wearing chaddi when schin used to bowl to understand his heroics
