Test cricket is a waste of time
by Neeraj Gupta on May 20, 2010 06:05 PM  | Hide replies

Test cricket was a game played by the Nawabs and the Britishers when they had ample time and nothing else to do. A sport in the bigger arena is for the entertainment of the people and not to make cricketing icons who get worldwide accolades.
This game requires more talent than any other form. In Test cricket you can leave the short ball but not in this form of the game. Moreover you have to be at the peak of your form to be successful unlike 50 over game and test cricket where you can claw your way back even when out of form.
One could always argue against test cricket that why is it played for only 5 days and why not 10 days maybe playing 3 innings each instead of 2.
Test cricket in the long run will die its natural death. The game has to evolve as is true for anything else in the world.
People who have done exceptionally well at Test cricket are the ones calling T20 nonsense cricket etc. because they fear that they will not be remembered once Test cricket weans away

Philo:

Even better advice. Do like what I do.

I don't watch FIFA world cup and I have the full time from 10 AM to 10 PM for my family, friends and all other good things in life. :)

You will be even better off when you give up watching T20... :)

Ex cricketers complaining a lot these days!
by sandeep kumar on May 20, 2010 06:04 PM  | Hide replies

People like holding, bedi, atherton need some special sessions to explain that the world has changed. Holding bowled in an era where pitches were bouncy and you could bowl multiple bouncers, and these guys made full use of it. I am sure if holding plays now, and bowls on todays pitches to the likes of Yuvi or Sehwag, he'll probably be taken off after 2 overs. IPL rocks and it has given us superstars like Pathan who have changed the way ball is hit. IPL is the sign of new aggresive India and some non-indians cant digest this fact!

All these people earned their name & respect due to playing test matches. We all agree that he exceled at that. But he should also realize that in the end whether particular format is cricket or not wil be decided by public not past players. He is just insulting and undermining people who throng stadiums in india, australia or west indies for all these T20 matches. It is not the way to treat burgeoning youngsters from west indies. instead of outright saying tht pollard is not a cricketer let him give some advise which help in making all forms of game..

yes he did. He said Pollard is not even a cricketer. Like the previous poster says, its the PUBLIC that decide the game they want to watch and players thye want to watch. And the verdict is T20 and Pollard. If Holding doesn't want to watch it, then dont watch it. But dont bring up names...

You will not see any good fielding, classic shots and great bowling in 20-20. You will find rash shots, poor fielding in 20-20

no body has time to test match cricket, either people to watch for 5 days and players are wearing out very fast. so they will play only t20 cricket and make money at any time and good for people to watch some fun

Holding's views are typically coonservative and one need to move on with times. All of us know that classical music is the best form of music where one'skill and creativity is shown and no other music can come anywhere near to it. Yet, pop music, film music are patronised by a large section of people and can we deny that? That is also music and one needs to have it too. No way am i saying that test cricket should not be played. Rather, it is show cases the true skills of a cricketer. But times change and people want entertainment and one needs to accept that as they are the ones who bring money and sustain the game.

T20 not a cricket - Funny Cricket
by Madhukar Kudtarkar on May 20, 2010 05:57 PM

Holding is right in saying T20 not acricket. It is Timepass.A good batsman /bowler can loose his confidence/faith as he may bat/bowl well sometimes fail.Even the art of Batting/bowling fails,

I would like to change the format of the game.
Place 13 players on field , only 9 to bat i.e 5 batsman who have not bowled 4 batsman who bowled their 4 overs. It will give a chance for a good fast bowler to have 3 slips/ 6 players on bondary line for Spinners. Then we really know how best a batsman/ Bowler is.Power play accordingly.
