Ok, the pitch was a tad bit dicey and may certainly had the odd unpredictable bounce - most 2nd/3rd day wickets do. However, it was still a flat subcontinental wicket, not the WACA, and also the bowler wasn't exactly Michael Holding or Jeff Thompson or Andy Roberts or any one of the truly fearsome fast bowlers of the 80s. Now, I know that Dravid is the kind of guy who is one of those who is more on the side of perspiration than inspiration and also that his cricket is based on eliminating risk as much as possible - hence, it puzzles me how he lost concentration for a bit and ducked right into a just below chest height delivery. And what is up with that helmet?
Wonder how Gavaskar, who faced truly fast bowling with just a boxer's forehead guard under that floppy of his, must have felt about the technique of Dravid. Seems to me that lately a lot of the Indian players are forgetting the basics, like running with an outstretched bat to ground and evading rather than ducking to a bouncer that they would rather not risk a pull or hook to.

BTW, Sunny was the commentator when this happened and Sunny was also the kind of player who played more percentage cricket (although not as much as Dravid).

The ball had an unexpected low bounce, due to which he wasnt able to duck fully. and before criticizing the best bastman of indian cricket ever, go wear a good quality cricketing helmet and face a bouncer from saurav ganguly. you'll realize how tough it is to face fast bowling.

Hey man - I like Rahul. But there is nothing incorrect about my critique - besides, no need to get personal, I am not the one playing cricket as a profession at the highest level - but I guarantee you that if I did, I would be saying this critique to myself and certainly expecting it from discerning supporters. And as far as the greatest Indian batsmen ever that is a very subjective statement. With all due respect to Mr. Dravid and his achievements in cricket, I don't think he would make the first 11 of an all time Indian side, let alone world - and before you go mouthing off again, I base my remark on the fact that he would have to force himself into the side solely on the basis of batsmanship (given that we are selecting a balanced 11 with 5 bats, 1 wicket keeper and 5 bowlers (2/3)).
dravid is like Nucleus of our team....he build partnerships after partrnerships.he akes things looks so cool aslong as he stays at the crease. we all wish him speedy recovery...INDIA NEEDS FOR TEST CRICKET THIS GENTLMAN ATLEAST EXT TWO MORE YEARS.
