and even this world's highest honour may be nobel prize (if it was for sports ), must have been bestowed to sachin, no that particular honour would have felt honoured to perpetuaity .
look, at my points in detail aspects...
Its crystal clear, that sachin is the person to influence 120 crores indians in this modern era (each indian), it was Gandhiji previously.
Now what is his influence or total impact on us or even the planet at large?
Looking by his karma gestures n humbleness, on india in particular n world in general, no one ever has given (not achieved ) more in the modern era .
What has he given (not looking at what has he achieved's angle), happiness, self belief ,joy, true art , majesticity, confidence. n countless more undefined.
he earns crores but thats a medium of life, do we want materialstic pleasures really, or the art of spirituality.
spirituality coz... when a person becomes higher than his karma, he attains salvation or moksha.
just look at him n u wud see he has achieved that, n we hav got some of it by sheer watchin him.
and for critics, good n correct criticism is important but wud u criticize the SUN for burning us to flames of envy, jealousness n desires.
SACHIN is the world's only modern surviving legend till now in his 37 years in this planet.
so "Sachin being GOD of cricket" is correctly hailed in this quote is enough to justify that he is a special creation of THE GOD.

It is sad that we Indians are influenced by a sportsperson. It shows the moral bankruptcy in our country. It is the same in the west too. Scientists are not role models. Sportspersons are. Too sad. We worship sports persons, who do what they do for money or love of sport. We do not worship visionaries. Sad, so sad. Sachin deserves all the adulation he gets. But please let us not worship Sachin. It would be sad for so many other's who have sacrificed their lives for humanity.

What man! Anyone can be a role model for anyone! Dr. Abdul Kalam, a scientist, is a role model for everyone. But if cricket is popular in India, it's just because of Sachin. After being so famous & rich, after breaking so many records he is still a down to earth person. Have you ever read his statement you find wrong? He is a nobel person and mush be honoured.

Why do you think sports is not important. Infact there is not a single sportsperson who got Bharat ratna. Plenty of scientists, social workers and even actors got the award. This infact tells us that sports is not given any importance in this country.

great scientists, socialists n reformers true n patriotic leaders n saints n also worthy of nobel prizs n all adulations for all their sacrifices for poors n general persons.
but hey friend, my point is that i am not praising sachin, i am praising the "the bhava of karma" , "the spirit of duty" in sachin.
Any how field of karma is not important, the attitude or bhava is important ,( even michael jackson, pele , maradona, federer n gr8 scientists n saints n socialists like mother teresa all fall into same category ) coz... of their duty. n even a common housewife or a simple peon serving for 40 years without any blitches , r gr8s, lest they don't hav any desires left.
coz... then this category of peopl do cross the materialistic barriers into the next stage of salvation.
actually, this is a more realtive context or issue, whether u get rid of ur desires by doing some gr8 or simple (again relative) karma.
n a persons karma don't giv him salvation, its the reaction or counters shown by him in crisis times, thats more important.

Naresh Bhai,
What has Lata mangeshkar done for the country to receive a Bharat Ratna? or Bhimsen Joshi or Ravi Shankar or Subbalakshmi....Were they freedom fighters dude?
Ratna is given for exemplary achievement in any field - Tendulkar certainly qualifies as the greatest cricketer ever.

You stole my words Ravi. When I read Naresh's post I was going to reply the same answer. :)

Bharat Ratna is not a social service award...it is for anybody who is a gem of Bharata...without doubt Tendulkar is one!
Actually Bharat Ratna got really small after MGR received it. It was pure politics that he was conferred Bharat Ratna. Anyway isn't Vishy Anand much greater than Sachin. He succeeded in a sport that is much more global than cricket and much more competitive.

Most of the fan(atic)s, whether Sachin's or other's would not understand the concept of human vs God. They use the term God too lightly. We Indian's use the concept of God for everything. Even though I am agnostic(practicing Hindu) I would not use the word God for anything. We expect too less from our heroes (politicians as well). Bharat Ratna should be given to only those wo have answered the call of the country beyond their responsibility. All sportsmen at best ar mercenaries. Sachin is a sportsman par excellence but I don't think he performed beyond his call of duty to the country. Neither did Lata, MGR etc etc.

What is this man? A prize is meant to for one who has done something extraordinary in his field and made his country proud. Ok, scientists, army person do something directly for thier country but it's thier job to do so. If they have a better option for earning money they would go for it. Ofcourse scientists who has done well for their respective countries chose this field because they were good in science. Everybody can't be a scientist, a doctor, a leader or an army person. Bharat Ratna award, I think is to be given to who has made the country proud. And clearly Sachin is one of them. You won't find a player caliber of him, who is beyond any comprasion, yet so modest and humble. Look at the new generation who after playing only 10-20 matches go out of their mind.

Very well said Chanakya. Sachin, no doubt is one of the greatest sportsperson and an excellent role model, but using God on him is a bit loose.

Agreed with Sameer. One shouldn't tag him as a god and that is where problems start.
This indeed is encouraging news. Sachin should be bestowed with the honor immediately, and not 15 years after he retires.
He is our country's greatest Ambassador, and this award is justified in every sense of the term.
After giving so much to our great nation, the Bharat Ratna is the best way the Government can repay this humble and great individual for his yeomen services.
