Incorrect
by Harikrishna Srirangam on Aug 20, 2010 08:17 AM

Traditionally, in every ODI match, the fielding restrictions applied for the first 15 overs of each innings, which saw only two fielders being allowed outside the 30-yard circle.
-this is incorrect. If I remember right this came into force in Australia in the mid-eighties and was made the rule around the world in the early ninties after the 1992 world cup.

how can ICC react much before WSG ?
by Sameer joseph on Aug 18, 2010 04:35 PM  | Hide replies

1. The first match with coloured clothing featured the WSC Australians in wattle gold versus WSC West Indians in pink, in Melbourne on January 17, 1979.

2. The ICC reacted to the development by organising the first cricket World Cup in England in 1975.

hw can ICC react 4 years earlier in 75 for the WSG happened in 79?
something is wrong here..

One-day cricket began between English county teams on 2 May 1962. Leicestershire beat Derbyshire and Northamptonshire beat Nottinghamshire over 65 overs in the "Midlands Knock-Out Cup", which Northamptonshire went on to win a week later. The following year, the first full-scale one-day competition between first-class teams was played, the knock-out Gillette Cup, won by Sussex. League one-day cricket also began in England, when the John Player Sunday League was started in 1969. Both these competitions have continued every season since inauguration, though the sponsorship has changed. The knock-out cup is now the Friends Provident Trophy. The league is not exclusive to Sundays, with the competition now over 40 overs. It is now called the Natwest Pro40.

The first Limited Overs International (LOI) or One-Day International (ODI) match was played in Melbourne in 1971, and the quadrennial cricket World Cup began in 1975. Many of the "packaging" innovations, such as coloured clothing, were as a result of World Series Cricket, a "rebel" series set up outside the cricketing establishment by Australian entrepreneur Kerry Packer.

Everything is wrong World cup was started after ICC saw the popularity for the one day game (a test match was converted to a one day game in 1971)

For the record, the first limited-overs match was played on January 5, 1971, between Australia and England at the MCG after the first three days of the third Test between the countries were washed out.

With no possibility of a result, the officials decided to abandon the Test and entertain the crowd by a playing a One-dayer of 40-overs each on the final day, which the hosts won by five wickets.

Around 46,000 fans attended the game and, quite aptly, the late Don Bradman told everyone at the end of the game: 'You have seen history made.'

India cricket team is among the best in the world...thats why the sport is famous..
Indian hockey team gets what they need...stil they werent able to make it to the champions trphy dis year...
Indian football..hasnt been able to produce 11 world class players...they rejected an opportunity to play in the world cup...just bcoz they couldnt play with shoes...and our captain Bhutia...refuses being a part of Arsenal..an opportunity to promote Indian football globally...and rather takes part in dance shows...
And btw..its not that no other sportsman is known in India...those who dsrve it are famous...dr is Sania Mirza (Tennis)...Saina(Badminton)...Leander n Paes(Tennis)..Anand(Chess)... and a few shooting players..
Mr Great Maratha..u need to b able to have an identity..and the truth is that the Indian hockey and football players..despite given opportunities..have cum out to b useless...
