NO need to compare SUNNY WITH SACHIN....SUNNY is anytime better than SACHIN ....but can we say SUNNY better than BRADMAN....I say ''''yeeessss''''.Let's start a debate on rediff on this issue...I know SUNNY will win the votes.
He had a very safe pair of hands.Recently ,Dilip Sardesai memorial function he had mentioned late Eknath Solkar's(All time great close in fielder) contribution towards above mentioned subject which clearly reflects his passion for excellence in that field of cricket.

I still remember Sidhu saying to some chanel guy before Aus tour,after he was asked some question abt perfroming in AUs. He said He wont talk, his bat will talk in AUS..andguess what first match ..first over he faced..he was bowld .....Sidhu was playing good but saying he was best opener.is bit overstatement...
I consider Sunil Gavaskar as one of the best batsmen, India has ever produced.technically sound and served country well. He is also a very lucky in his career, by his own admission, by Gary Sobers dropping him twice on his way to his first century and the same Gary Sobers catching brilliantly Jayantilal to deny him second chance. But he also behaved a little egoistic, on occassions; probably situations demanded it. I rate him much superior to Tendulkar in his contribution to Indian Cricket. I respect him in his decision to retire at his peak; unlike Kapid Dev.

chatur must pull out his head out of sehwag's bumchums because i dont think he reads what he types..
Sunil Gavaskar is undoubtedly the best batsman this country has produced and is one of the all time greats. I would definitely rate him much ahead of Tendulkar. In fact, I would even rate G. R. Viswanath and Mohinder Amarnath above Tendulkar.

I would differ- Mohinder NEVER dominated the bowling. Sachin has dominated the bowling several times.

Amarnath was good player..who had come backs 8 times..So he was taken out of team 8 tyimes..Does that tell u something...plus for few years he was master of hitwkt...Anyhow he later improved on that Thanks to Sunnys's suggestion...Sunny is a pioner, Sachin is uncomparaable...jimmy was great fighter,Wishy was an artist...Everyone is /was good
We were kids at school, eons before satelite TV and the mobile generation were even heard of. TV was just Doordarshan (with no national telecast, just that four-hour slot) and radio commentary was the manna from the skies. The images of Sunil Gavaskar doing single-handed battle against the most awesome of bowling attacks in the world produced unfailingly used to produce one single image in my mind - that of Pitamaha Bheeshma of the Kuru Dynasty battling single-handedly, standing between the Kauravas and defeat, but alas, fighting the very virtuous grandchildren he so dearly loved and doing a hated job for those whom he detested. While I certainly don't compare our national existence with the evil Kauravas, nor can ever drea of comparing any of our opponents with the virtuous Pandavas, there is no doubt hat Sunil Gavaskar is the Bheeshma of batsmanship. Sir Donald Bradman can be called the Dronacharya of batting (Sachin Tendulkar said so, I believe, when he met the Don), for his unrivalled artistry, but Gavaskar will be its unquestioned Bheeshma. Sir Donald Bradman only once faced the kind of hostile fast bowling that Gavaskar faced right through his career. During that series (Lorwood) Bradman's famed average dropped to 56. Gavasker, for a long time, maintained an average of around 60, and even higher against the teams with ferocious fast bowlers. Many may not agree but I rate Gavaskar above Bradman in certain matters. Let us recall he faced these feared fast bowlers without helmet.

100% true. Gavaskar is the greatest of all times. Noone had such record against the likes of Marshal, Roberts and Holdings. Even players like Gower were not confident against them.
