any idea or stats like how many wkts did buckner get thru his umpiring in 126 tests, n 179 odis. it vl b the record highest among all umpires. those wkts taken by buckner shud b taken away from bolrs' analysis. his stats against ind must b highest among all countries.

I did a research on two umpires: Dickie Bird and Steve Bucknor on internet. While the statistics of Dickie Bird talks of matches played, runs scored, etc. there are no stats for Steve. Wikipedia gives, in both cases, unbiased reporting, including Steve's erroneous judgement. It is a matter of shame that ICC did not sack him instead of letting him retire on his own. I only hope the Springboks would not suffer at his hands as he will be umpiring the last three tests versus the Australians.
He is a big black point in umpire panel. Our great Venki was far far better then him in disition making. But he did not get much opertunity. Other wise Venki would have been standing more test matches then this black dog. what do u say guys?

i agree with u.
i remember one incident, when a bolr (dont know who?) running in his follow thru kicked the ump with his legs. buckner shud only b kicked like that on his back.

Vinay
I think the incident you are referring to was during the 79-80 tour of New Zealand by West Indies. Colin Croft was the bowler and he shoulder charged the umpire for a slew of pathetic decisions.

Yes.. Bucknor has given many wrong decisions against our Sachin. He should have retired or fired 5 years ago.
• Steve Bucknor: Umpired in 17 India Tests, India has won four of them 1992-93: India vs South Africa, Johannesburg With South Africa reeling at 73-5, Indians appeal for Jhonty Rhodes’ run-out. Bucknor refuses to take Third Umpire’s help. Replays show Rhodes, who went on to play a match-saving innings, was clearly short of the crease. Result: Match drawn
1998-99: India vs Pakistan, Kolkata Shoaib Akhtar obstructs Sachin Tendulkar as he fails to make it to the crease. Bucknor turns a blind eye and refers the matter to the TV umpire. As the red light flashes and Tendulkar walks to the dressing room, Eden erupts. Result: Pakistan won
2003-04: India vs Australia, Brisbane Tendulkar is given out lbw when the ball hit on a knee roll and the line was just outside the off-stump. The bowler was Jason Gillespie and India slips after a good start Result: Match Drawn
2003-04: India vs Australia, Sydney India is on the verge of history of a series win on the final day. Bucknor refuses a number of close leg-before decisions against the Aussies. India falls short of time. Skipper Sourav Ganguly in his post-series report to ICC gives Bucknor very poor ratings with adverse comments. Result: Match drawn
2003-04: India vs Pakistan, Lahore India is already on the backfoot in the series for the first time after an awful batting display. Five opportunities missed while bowling, four of them adjudicated by Bucknor.

Post-2004, there have been many many mishaps against india from the man who daydreams with cap on..most irritating and incompetent umpire cricket has seen..three cheers on his retirement !!

dont discard him as just incompetent. he was rather biased in his decisions or may b he wanted to change the results for the purpose of match fixers.
