Batsmen Comparisions
by Sameer K on Jan 28, 2008 09:45 PM  | Hide replies

When Sourav Ganguly scored few runs in South Africa, all hell had broken loose, he had become great and was highest run getter in that series. But it was due to the fact that Sachin, Laxman and Dravid were in the worst form of their lives.

In form Ganguly in SA in 2006/2007 scored 214 runs in 3 Tests with 2 fifties and a average of 42.80, an out of form sachin scored 199 in 3 matches and 6 innings with 2 fifties and a average of 33.16. Again a out of form Laxman scored 180 runs in same 3 tests and 6 innings with 2 fifties and a average of 36. Similary Dravid too was out of form and in same no of innings and test scored 125 runs with no fifties and a average of 20.83.

Now look at Australian tour, in form Ganguly, not just inform the great batsmen who was scoring 100s and 200s on Indian pitches against a depleted bowling attack scored 235 runs in 4 matches and 8 innings, with 2 fifties and a average of 29.35. Sachin now in form scored 493 runs with 2 fifties and 2 hundreds at a average of 70.42, similary Laxman scored 366 runs with 2 fifties and one hundred at a average of 45.75, Dravid's bad form continued and he scored 237 runs with 2 fifties at a average of 33.85.

Moral of the story Ganguly becomes a great batsmen after scoring 200 runs in 3 match series, but when Sachin, Dravid and Laxman are out of form and score 15 to 40 runs less than Ganguly.

If Gilchrist retired gracefully in this series, d flat pitch batting wonder of test cricket shud he forced to retire by BCCI.

BUT FOR KUMBLE.......
by Kabeer on Jan 28, 2008 07:35 PM  | Hide replies

Had Kumle declared an hour earlier in Bangalore India could have defeated Pakistan and would have got a few more points.

Had India drawn the Sydney test it still would have got more points

Had India scored a little briskly in the morning and set 200 target to Australia and declared at Tea in Adelaide there was a chance to win.

Either India would have overtaken Australia or atleast closed the gap!

had India bowled Austrlia out in 3 hours in both the Innigs, India would have won the Melborn.

had India bowled Austrlia out in 3 hours in both the Innings, India would have won in Sydney.

had India bowled Austrlia out in 3 hours in both the Innings, India would have won the Adeliade.

Had India bowled all other teams out in 3 hours in both the innigs, India would have been number one for last many years..

This is how it goes Kabeer..lmao

Well I see it as India won 2-1 but for bukner (or "bunker") & benson. If they had correctly called the appeals - Australia would have folded around 200 in the first innings and India would have piled on runs. Aus-second innings - same thing Hussey would have been out at 45 and we would have prolly won by an innings!

On the other hand - the second innings batting from India in Adelaide - does show us that after all its the same old India team - if not for Sehwag - we were trying to loose this one too. Someone must have forgotten to tell Sehwag what the other batsmen knew.

Also - i find Dhoni has been completely exposed by Aussies - his batting was horrible - Bhajji batted better than him.

We very much appreciate this forum.. And you can courteously leave this patently Indian forum and take your racist comments with you as well..
Guess there aren't any decent forums in Australia, so you keep coming here sniffing out opportunities to rile and sledge.. :-)
Seems you didn't get enough mates back home to sledge?.. pity..

Kumble should be made captain lot earlier
by Seema Shetty on Jan 28, 2008 06:19 PM  | Hide replies

Congradulations for Indian team. One man who stands tall in the series is none other than Anil Kumble. He is a born leader and a really fighter. He handled the situation and captaincy with much maturity. If he is the captain for next 2 years, India will become the No.1 team no doubt. As he is encouraging and grooming the young players a lot, India will be in the No.1 team in the next decade. I wish him all the best.

Interesting to see a fighter from the South!
I remember reading a few years ago how Manoj Prabhakar was complaining against Azharuddin and southerners in the Indian team who were not willing to 'fight'. Looks like Kumble has addressed this issue!

ICC Rankings the Best
by Rafiq Raja on Jan 28, 2008 05:58 PM

Time and again, ICC Rankings prove that they are the best scale for evaluating a team's performance, justified by India's elevation to the 2nd spot. No doubt, India deservered the rank, and proud to say we are the second best team after Australia.

Hats off to BCCI for helping the Aussie win
by Sanjay on Jan 28, 2008 04:39 PM

BCCI loves to play politics with the a winning team. As soon as Tandukler got his award he become his lack luster best. Also why did they drop the players who were playing the test, didn't they know they were hurting their spirit? Shouldn't the selectors waited after seeing how well they played before deselecting them. BCCI will always harm cricket of India.

Austrailians are looser because the cheat to win, and need all the outside help they can get.

Rajnarain Gouda
India's rating
by Rajnarain Gouda on Jan 28, 2008 04:06 PM

It is pleasing to note that India is ranked second officially by ICC, in test matches, ahead of Srilanka and South Africa.

One would however wish that by avoiding controversies, politics, policy of preferential treatment of certain players, selection goofups, focussing attention on development of infrastructure and playing conditions alongside raising large revenues by way of telecast rights, IPL franchise etc., BCCI will ensure that the gap between the first team and India is drastically reduced and the gap between India and the 3rd-5th teams is widened.

Besides the official ranking by ICC, it was also heartwarming to hear Ponting admit to Star Cricket in his interview after Adelaide test that teams like SA and England have lost to Australia in Australia 3-0 or 5-0 and it is India which has shown attitude, grit in checking the march of Australia and that is why he considers India as No.2 team behind his own team.

This view of Ponting, coming as it does from horse's mouth, should silence the tasteless critics of Team India and its players.

Yes sir, I am with you in wishing the very best to Dhoni and his team in T20 and the ODI triseries.

I sincerely wish that just like Kumble, Dhoni will make many critics eat humble pie after the ODI series is over.
